ABSTRACT


          The purpose of this research work is to examine the impact of family socio-economic and its effects on students’ academic performance in primary schools in Ikere Local Government Area of Ekiti State.


          The sample consists of 120 students randomly selected in three schools in the Local government. The Instrument was a structure questionnaire on socio-economic status of family.


          It was concluded that the educational level of parents play important role in determining the academic performance of students. Children from parents with fat income and enviable occupation perform academically better than children from parents with low incomes. The family type and parental attitudes to their children’s education are strong determinant of the child at school. Based on these findings, certain recommendation is made to wants improving students’ academic performance. Prominent of these includes: proper finding of education by government, sensitization of parents towards their children education and the support of NGOs to eradicate poverty.


          More guidance and counselors should be posted to these schools at least one per class to help students who have learning difficulties where guidance and counselors are also needed at home to enlighten or educate parents on the importance of education to children’s development
