Factors Affecting The Implementation Of Free Primary Education In Kenya, A Case Of Selected Schools In Subukia Zone In Nakuru District

A qualitative survey was carried out in 13 primary schools of Subukia educational zone with the purpose of examining the factors affecting the implementation of free primary education. The following objectives guided the study; to establish if the infrastructure affects the implementation of free primary education, To establish if physical facilities affects the implementation of free primary education in Subukla zone; To assess if quality of education has been affected by the implementation of Free primary education, To assess if the quality of primary teachers has affected primary education. To establish the effect of poverty on the implementation of Free primary education. 182 respondents was used for the study and the findings were as follows; out of thirteen primary schools investigated, three of them had an ideal number of classrooms and the rest of them did not have leading to overcrowding in schools. Sanitary conditions were also not appropriate especially for the girl children. A number of teachers had low qualifications and numeration was a little bit low and therefore could not meet the teacher's needs. The teacher pupil ratio wwas high and many of the children came from low economic status families. The above mentioned factors greatly contributed negatively to the performance of learners in primary schools in Subukia educational zone.
