ABSTRACT

This research work is to examine the impact of occupational safety and health on workers morale and level of productivity. The study revealed that occupational safety and health has a significant impact on both workers morale and their level of productivity. The study was carried out in Tuyil Pharmaceutical Industries Limited and Dangote Flour Mills, both in Ilorin. For this study, one hundred and eighteen respondents were sampled using the questionnaire as a means of gathering data from samples and semi structured interview was used to get the opinion of the management. The collected data were analysed under various headings. Three hypotheses were tested with the use of chi-square statistical method. The findings from the study revealed that there is a significant relationship between occupational safety and health and workers morale, there is a significant relationship between occupational safety and health and productivity, and also that there is no significant relationship between occupational safety and health and rate of absenteeism. Based on the information gathered in the analysis of the research work, it was observed that both organisations have a safety and health policy and that this has positively impacted the morale and productivity of their workers. Given the impact of occupational safety and health on workers’ morale and level of productivity, it was therefore suggested that other organizations should adopt best practices in occupational safety and health so that workers morale and productivity can be enhanced, and government should sign the Labour Safety, Health, and Welfare Bill of 2012 into law to enhance national productivity.
