Impact Of Quality Management On The Competitiveness Of Organisations; The Case Study Of Roofings Uganda Limited-Lubowa

ABSTRACT

The study examined the impact of Quality management on organizational

competitiveness; the case study of Roofings Limited (Lubowa)

The objects of the study were:-

1) To determine the impact of customer focus (value & satisfaction) on

organisations' competitiveness

2) To assess the impact of training on waste reduction and productivity

3) To establish the impact continuous improvement on product/service quality

The research was principally descriptive involving both qualitative and quantitative

techniques of data analysis. Simple random sampling techniques were also used to

select respondents for the study and a total of 30 respondents took part in the study.

The main instruments for data collection were basically questionnaires and also face to

face interviews were also conducted. Data collected using questionnaires and a

structured interview guide was analyzed using frequency counts in form of percentages

and was later tabulated to determine the level of significance.

The findings. of the research showed that the Roofings Limited in her bid to maintain

her customer base and compete positively in a volatile market environment, integrates

quality in all the different functional areas that are associated with the production

process, including suppliers, sales, production and services to drive forward the

concept of continuous improvement. Analysis of findings reveals a positive relationship

among the variables in as far as quality and competition is concerned.

The researcher recommends among others things that it is important that Roofings

Limited develops a comprehensive Total Quality Management strategy which embraces

all areas of the organisation. The adoption of a comprehensive approach to quality

should viewed as the foundation upon which the culture and structure of the

organisation is built.

A comprehensive approach to Total Quality Management will ensure that quality

becomes identical with each activity the organisation undertakes. Roofings Limited

should build a comprehensive quality strategy that does not allow complacency to

dilute the effectiveness of their Total Quality Management philosophy. Measures should

be taken to ensure that Roofings Limited keeps pace with all developments in the area

of quality management
