ABSTRACT The study investigated the relationship between moral values and drop-out rate of girl-child in primary school in Jagusi Island Sub County Mayuge District, Uganda. The specific objectives were: to find out the moral values of girl child, to assess the dropout rates of girl child to establish the relationship between moral values and dropout rates of girl-child. The study employed descriptive correlation design. Questionnaires and interview guide were used to gather data from 188 respondents. Frequency, percentage and chi-square were used to analyze the data. The findings showed that girl-child have fair moral values as shown by their responses.. The dropout rates of girl –child in primary schools is average which between 25-50 percent. The study also found out that there was no relationship between moral values and drop-out rates of girl-child education. Based on the findings the following conclusions were made; that the parents should teach their children good morals. The drop- out rates can be improved if parents and other stakeholders come together to address the causes of drop-out. The findings also showed that moral values does not influence drop –out rate of girl- child. That there could be other factors that affect drop-out rates of girl-child. It is recommended that parents should follow the law as stipulated in the Children’s Act in the Constitution of 1996 of the Republic of Uganda about the children’s rights and be able to promote girl child education. Parents should be strict in their daughters’ movements especially to school, water sources, market and other social places, monitoring the kind of peer groups their children get attached to. Teachers should play the greatest part of the modeling the girl child through PIASCY messages at school, holding regular meetings and using a talking compound. Political leaders, religious leaders and other responsible people should equip girls with life skills to help them get equal opportunities as boys to continue with their education. The government through the National Curriculum Development Centre should develop a policy that favor and promotes girls enjoy education policy in place.
