OFFICE MANAGERS ASSESSMENT OF RECORDS MANAGEMENT IN MODERN TIMES-CHALLENGES AND PROSPECTS

The aim of this project is to x-ray office manager’s assessment of records management in Modern times: challenges and prospects. The researcher in order to carry out an effective and efficient research reviewed some relevant literature on the issue to form the theoretical aspect of the topic. The researcher adopted the questionnaire as the main instrument used for collecting data for the study. The questionnaire consists of twelve (12) questions which were submitted to the project supervisor, who corrected and approved it before administration. The researcher administered the questionnaire and the data obtained were critically analyzed and evaluated using the simple percentage method for accuracy and simplicity. The population of the study was 100 management staff and office managers in each of the selected organizations in Port Harcourt, out of which 80 respondents were used as the sample size. The findings of the research revealed that inadequate power supply, poor/inaccessibility of network facilities and cost of machines/equipment strongly affects proper record management in modern times. There is also a consensus that uncontrolled access to vital records and the use of passwords and codes can keep records secured in the office. Based on the above findings, it was recommended that; in order to avoid information leakage and theft, management is encouraged to use password and codes to keep vital organizational information secured from third-party and unauthorized users. Also, office managers in all the business organizations should be trained on the latest packages of information technology in order to achieved the dividend of the used of modern records management facilities.
