ABSTRACT
The study was set to investigate per capita income of house hold standards of living a case study Makidye Division Kansanga Kampala. It was guided by the following objectives. The general objective of the study was to determine the impact of per capita income on the household standards of living in Makindye division and the specific objectives were: to determine the demographic characteristics of respondents that affect level of income, to determine the level of standards of living of people in Makindye division, to determine the size of per capita income for individuals in Makindye division and to determine the relationship between per capita Income and house hold standards of living. Research Design, study population, sampling strategies, data collection methods, instruments, data quality control, data analysis and procedure. From the findings it was evident that demographic characteristics affect per capita income and household standards of living in general as it was evident that the youth who were the majority earn little money and cant cater for all their needs the same applies to the widowed, illiterate and many households being headed by women. Most of the statements gave evidence that the standards of living are generally poor in Makindye Division with an exception of a few statements where respondents accepted that they can provide health facilities to their house hold members and that they can take all their children to school. The findings generally show that 20% of the respondents agreed that they receive less than 50000 shillings per month,35% of the respondents agreed that they receive income between 60000-10000 per month,40% of the respondents receive income between 110000-200000 and only 5% of the respondents receive income above 2l0000.This implies that most of the people receive income that is not enough to cater for all their needs thus implying poor standards of living for the households. most of the households receive monthly income that is below average to sustain their basic needs thereby signifying poor standards of living and findings show that there is a positive relationship between per capita income and household standards of living meaning that as per capita income increases household standards of living improve and vice versa. The study generally recommended that the government should put measures to improve on the per capita income in order to improve on the household standards of living.
