ABSTRACT

This study focused on the comparative study of the phytochemical constituents, in vitro antioxidant activity of the stem bark and seed oil extracts of Allanblackia floribunda. The phytochemical screening revealed that both extracts contain flavonoids, tannins, cardiac glycosides, alkaloids and saponins while terpenoids are absent in the stem bark extract but present in the seed oil extracts. However, the quantitative studies showed that proanthocyanidin, total phenol, total tannins were higher in the stem bark extract compared to the seed oil extract which has higher total flavonoid.  Ferric Reducing Antioxidant Potential (FRAP) of the stem bark extract was significantly higher than the seed oil extract. DPPH radical scavenging activities of both extracts were high.
