PREVALENCE OF AIRMICROFLORA BACTERIA IN NIGERIAN CURRENCY

52 PAGES (0 WORDS) Microbiology Project
ABSTRACT

Bacteria contamination on Nigerian currency evaluated by exposure method. Pure colony of each isolates were identified using colonial morphological characteristics, as well as biochemical reaction. Nutrient agar, blood agar and sabouraud dextrose agar were exposed for 5 minutes in various Nigerian currency mention in chapter 3. Seven bacteria genera and seven fungal genera were isolated. The bacteria isolated includes: Micrococcus spp, Klebsiella spp, Actinomyces spp, Bacillus spp, Lactobacillus spp, Staphylococcus aureus and Sarcina maxima.  The fungi isolated includes: Aspergillus terreus, Rhizopus spp, Candida spp., Aspergillus clavatus, Aspergillus niger, Botrytis spp and Aspergillus fumigatus. In conclusion, many bacteria were isolated from these currencies that mean, that those currency are not hygienic for people to use with the same hand they use in eating.
