ROLES OF WATER RESOURCES FOR SOCIO-ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT OF RURAL COMMUNITIES IN JERE LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREA OF BORNO STATE

ABSTRACT

The research which is entitled the roles of water resources for socio-economic development of rural communities in jere local government area of Borno state, has the sole objective of identifying the sources of water resources of the respondents in the study area, determine the household income arising from water related activities and to identify the constraints associated with water resources in the study area. Purposive sampling method was used where out of twelve wards five wards were purposively selected for the study, simple descriptive statistics was used to analyzed the collected data and findings indicates that the major source of water supply is the area is Borehole, findings also revealed that the income arising from water related activities are significantly high ranging from 100,000 to 500,000 per month while most of the constraints associated with water related activities are Proximity of water source (distance), Poor Transport system to convey water from source, Poor management practice by public bore hole operators, Lack of storage facilities e.g water tank, Environmental pollution e.g water pollution.
