The Impact Of Parks And Gardens On Environmental Sustainability In Khartoum City

Abstract

Urban open spaces are an important component of any urban fabric, embracing the activities of different populations. It is one of the most visible elements of the

relationship between man and the environment in which he lives, and reflects the general picture of any city. This paper examines the impact of parks and gardens on environmental sustainability in Khartoum city (C.B.D). Urban open spaces,

especially parks and gardens, were chosen because they represent the basic element of building the city's community and are considered one of the most important components of urban planning and design in the city.

The main problem of the open urban space in the city of Khartoum (the city center) is how to visualize the elements of urban environmental architecture in this

area so as to be a place where the elements of comfort, belonging and safety are available, and appropriate to modern requirements while maintaining the identity

of the open spaces through the absorption of current and future high population density movement. Hence the importance of the research is to confirm the function

of open urban spaces and clarify its identity through the activity used in it and improve the urban environment and raise the level of application of environmental

design elements in it.

The study has reached many conclusions, including the many problems that led to the inability of the open spaces in the Khartoum Center to keep pace and development for many reasons, including a clear lack of squares and outlets for

citizens and not equipped to make it a destination to go to it, and not to exploit the natural and historical possibilities of Khartoum and the introduction of them as

important elements to revive the Economic situation in terms of tourism, and lack of periodic maintenance.

Some of the most important recommendations included attention to the aesthetic aspects of the urban environment through attention to the elements of environmental architecture as it plays an important role in raising the functional and aesthetic efficiency of the open spaces and provide all the needs for people with special needs such as slopes, and finally: Establishing regulations, legislation

and laws related to the preservation of green spaces in all cities because they are considered a social demand and a property of the public right while continuing research in this important domain.
