Total Quality Management And Educational Outcomes In Colleges Of Education In South-West Nigeria

ABSTRACT

This study examined the relationship between Total Quality Management (as measured by the level of compliance of management of Colleges of Education with the NCCE minimum standards for NCE teachers) and educational outcomes in Colleges of Education in south west, Nigeria. Eight research questions and eight hypotheses were formulated to guide the study. A descriptive survey research design was adopted for the study. The sample consisted of 612 lecturers (out of which 192 were management staff) and 600 final year students (2008/2009 session), selected from the six colleges sampled. Three instruments were used for data collection, these were the Total Quality Management Questionnaire for Lecturers (TQMQL). Total Quality Management Questionnaire for Management Staff (TQMQMS) and Records of Students' Academic Achievement (RSAA) which comprise the students' final results, as evident in their Cumulative Grade Point Averages (CGPA) over a three-year period (2006/2007, 2007/2008 and 2008/2009 sessions). Means and frequencies were used to summarise and describe the data, while the Pearson Product Moment Correlation Co-efficient and a Two-way Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) were used for data analysis.
