Experiences of Criminology Students at Southern Leyte State University in the Implementation of Flexible Learning Modalities System

ABSTRACT

This study explored the experiences of criminology students in Southern Leyte State University-Main Campus and answered the following sub problems: the positive and negative experiences of the informants; how do the informants cope with the challenges in the implementation of Flexible Learning Modalities System and their needs as they continue this new modality.

This study utilized qualitative research in phenomenological approach which focused on the commonality of experiences within a particular group. The jurisdiction of this study is the College of Criminal Justice, Southern Leyte State University- Main Campus, Sogod, Southern Leyte. Random sampling method is used in selecting the participants of the study. An interview guide with open ended questions were utilized. The data gathered were analyzed were analyzed through the use of thematic analysis where the answers of the participants were clustered into common themes.

For the positive experiences of the informants, two themes were made: Striving alone of the young minds and The gift of time. For negative experiences of the informants, themes created were: Struggles of a young mind and Shout of a young minds. For coping with the challenges experience by the informants, four themes were created: Family ties matter and Two heads are better than one. Further, for the needs of the informants, three themes were created: Craving young minds for cyber space and Young minds with an empty pocket.
