Sustainable Development in Bayelsa State - The Role of Civil Society Organisations

This paper uses an historical approach to bring to light the roles played by Civil Societies in ensuring sustainable development in Bayelsa State of Nigeria. In this paper, the meaning, nature and attributes of Civil Society organizations are established. The paper further establishes the important roles that civil society organizations have played in economic, social and political development of Bayelsa State, since its creation on October 1st, 1996.
