A TECHNICAL REPORT ON POTENTIALS AND DRAWBACKS OF SOLAR ENERGY AS A SUSTAINABLE ALTERNATIVE ENERGY SOURCE FOR NIGERIA

ABSTRACT The paper discusses the solar energy potentials and drawbacks as sustainable alternative energy source for Nigeria, the numerous issues involved in harnessing solar energy and clearly articulates a road map to enable Nigeria tap into this huge potential. Research indicate that, Nigeria lying in the tropics, receives abundant sunshine where about 1500PJ (about 258 million barrels of oil equivalent) could be available to Nigeria annually from solar energy if solar appliances with 5% c...

THE IMPLEMENTATION OF ADAPTIVE MODULATION USING MATLAB AND FUZZY LOGIC INTERFACE SYSTEM

ABSTRACT The rapid growth in the use of wireless communication in mobile network devices has made many engineers and researchers to start to look into ways to enhance data transmission either in form of voice, text, data, streaming multimedia, internet etc. Wireless Services that occur in real time require very little or no bit error during transmission in order for the receiver to get an intelligible information from the transmitting station. Whereas some services require more data to be tra...

A TERM PAPER ON DIRECT ENERGY CONVERTING DEVICES AND SYSTEMS

Fossil fuels (coal, fuel oil and natural gas) still meet the major part of our energy demand and are getting fast depleted. Moreover, there are serious pollution hazards like greenhouse effect and global warming which occur due to fossil fuel burning. The use of nuclear power too has its own problems and nuclear fusion is yet to be realized in practice. We have thus been forced to look for non-conventional power generation systems so as to reduce fossil fuel consumption by increasing the conv...

Some Later Ages Structural Characteristics of Concrete Containing Empty Palm Oil Fruit Brunch Ash (EPO-FBA) as Partial Replacement of Ordinary Portland Cement

This  paper  presents  the  results  of  the  investigation  conducted  to  assess  the  latter  day  strengths  of  concrete  in  which  the  cement constituent  of  the  mix  has  been  partially  replaced  by  empty  palm  oil  fruit  brunch  (EPO-FBA).  The  structural  parameters  investigated  were: workability,  density  and  compressive strength. Some physical  properties  and chemical  analysis  were conducted.  Slump  test  was  used...

Pozzolanic and mechanical properties of date palm seed ash (DPSA) concrete

This paper presents the findings of a research work conducted on how to improve the mechanical properties of concrete using Date Palm Seed Ash (DPSA) as partial replacement of cement. The DPSA used was obtained by controlled burning of date palm seed in a kiln at a maximum temperature of 630oC for eight hours and air cooled afterwards. The ash obtained was sieved through 75μm sieve and its oxide composition analysed using X-ray fluorescence (XRF) procedures. DoE method of mix design was used...

Effect of Particle Size of Date Palm Seed Ash (Dpsa) on Concrete Properties

The effect of particle size of date palm seed ash (DPSA) on concrete properties was investigated through the use of different fineness of date palm seed ash (600um, 300um, 150um and 75um) at 2.5% replacement of cement with date palm seed ash and tested for compressive strength at 7, 21, 28 and 56 days curing duration. The consistency and setting times of cement-DPSA paste was also researched to determine the amount of water required to prepare hydraulic cement paste for testing. The date palm...

Suitability of Crushed Palm Kernel Shells for Concrete Production

The suitability of palm kernel shell as a partial replacement of fine aggregate in concrete was researched to verify if concrete made with palm kernel shells meet some minimum standard prescribed for strength and density. Based on British standard classification of fine aggregate as aggregates passing the number 4 sieve of 4.75mm size or slightly higher sizes depending on local requirement, crushed palm kernel shells of particle diameter not greater than 5.0mm was used to replace river sand a...

A HYBRID HISTOGRAM IN-MOTION MAPPING MODEL FOR AUTONOMOUS MOBILE ROBOT NAVIGATION AND OBSTACLE AVOIDANCE

In this paper, the simplicity of the convectional Histogram in-motion mapping for obstacle avoidance technique which is now modified and modeled to Hybrid histogram in-motion mapping (HHIM) for autonomous mobile robot navigation and obstacle avoidance was primarily developed by AKWARA UCHENNA C. to solve robot navigation problems for completely unknown environment particularly for a static wave concave shaped obstacle. The developed model is to address the problem associated with a static wav...

VELOCITY HEAT CONDUCTIVITY (VHC) MODEL FOR TWO AUTONOMOUS MOBILE ROBOTS IN ENERGY WORKSPACE

In this paper, the research study on velocity heat conductivity (VHC) model for two autonomous mobile robots in energy workspace is adopted. The model is applied to solve and address; the conversion of heat energy conductivity into kinetic (internal) energy conductivity of the robots, to obtain the velocity energy placement and to derive a velocity heat conductivity mathematical model for algorithm simulation drive using specific heat capacity and thermal diffusivity response in energy worksp...

A Virtual Force Vibration Concept for four Resonances Autonomous Mobile Robot Navigation

In this paper, the research on virtual force vibration concept for four resonance autonomous mobile robots navigation is welcome. This concept is adopted and applied to solve and address; the behaviour of four autonomous mobile robots without initial force of vibration, the amplitude frequency of the vibrating medium, the effect of inapplicable resonance, the wavelength of vibration and the vibrating amplitude length of the four mobile robots. Robot 1 is set into motion at an amplitude freque...

A VIRTUAL THERMODYNAMIC TEMPERATURE CONCEPT IN 2D OBSTACLE ENVIRONMENT FOR AUTONOMOUS MOBILE ROBOT

In this paper, the virtual thermodynamic temperature concept (VTTC) proposed for 2D obstacle environment for autonomous mobile robot is welcome. The concept emphasis on the heat transfer and temperature measurement of an obstacle and robot workspace with reference to the virtual target concept (VTC) for Lengthy, Concave and Wave concave shaped obstacle. This method is used to address the heat transfer (internal) and the temperature incremental area that occur in 2D workspace for autonomous ...

A TERMPAPER ON TYPES, SELECTION AND DESIGN OF BEARING

TABLE OF CONTENT Definition of  Bearing Various types of Bearing and Features Classification of bearing Uses of types of bearing Criteria for bearing selectio DEFINITION OF BEARING A bearing is a device to allow constrained relative motion between two or more parts, typically rotation or linear movement. Bearings may be classified broadly according to the motions they allow and according to their principle of operation as well as by the directions of applied loads they can handle.

A TERMPAPER ON TYPES, AND DESIGN OF BRAKES

TABLE OF CONTENT Introduction Brake System Types of Brake System Applications of Brake System Performance Parameters of Brake System INTRODUCTION A brake is a device which inhibits motion. Its opposite component is a clutch. The rest of this article is dedicated to various types of vehicular brakes. Most commonly brakes use friction to convert kinetic energy into heat, though other methods of energy conversion may be employed. For example regenerative braking converts much of the energy to e...

A clear insight into the affinity of biochar towards water is critical for its intended application. The state of the biochar would govern its use for a particular application. For example, hydrophilic biochar is preferred when sorption or organic contaminants are concerned. It is, at present, not clearly established the factors that govern the hydrophilicity and/or hydrophobicity of a biochar. Comprehension of the factors that affect the affinity of biochar towards water would aid to create ...
