Molecular Characterization And Non-Chemical Management Of Root-Knot Nematodes (Meloidogyne Spp.) On African Nightshades In Selected Parts Of Kenya

ABSTRACT Root-knot nematodes (RKN) (Meloidogyne spp.) cause up to 80 % yield losses in infected vegetables. A study was carried out to; assess the influence of farmers’ knowledge and awareness on RKN damage on African nightshades (AFNS); assess the incidence and severity of RKN on AFNS; characterize the RKN species infecting AFNS; screen the AFNS for response to RKN and determine the efficacy of solarizing soils amended with selected organic materials against RKN. A root-knot nematode surve...

THE ROLE OF AUDITING IN FINANCIAL CONTROL. A CASE STUDY OF SOUS AND SONS ENTERPRISES LIMITED

ABSTRACT The thrust of this work is the role of auditors in financial control, to this end, the concept and practice of auditing were generally examined. The company under review is the sole manufacturer of Sous Vegetable Oil and other like jet bar soap, gold bar soap and its environs, enjoys monopolistic tendencies. The essence for “financial control” by this level cannot be over-emphasized as the sources and application of funds involving the company has to be presented to the owners. I...

FORMULATION AND PRODUCTION OF LEVERA SOAP

ABSTRACT The production of the soap was carried out using all the necessary equipments like the reactor, mould, stirrer, hygrometer guage etc. and all the required reagents for soap production in correct proportion. In the production, palm kernel oil (P.K.O) was used instead of tallow or grease.  This was because soap produced from grease or tallow tends to dissolve slowly at room temperature, whereas, soap of palm kernel oil product gives a quicker lather which is relatively suitable. Diff...

Determinants Of Technical Efficiency Of Smallholder Pineapple Producers In The Akuapem South Municipality

ABSTRACT The efficiency of resource-use is of major concern in agricultural production since farmers’ productivity and profitability depends on them. The study thus assesses the efficient use of production resource among small-holder pineapple farmers’ in the Akuapem South Municipality. The study area was selected since it has one of the largest numbers of small-holder pineapple producers in the country. The objective of the study was to determine and estimate the levels of resource effic...

Bioethanol Production from Sorghum Grains

Abstract A biofuel is a fuel that produced through contemporary biological processes such as agriculture and anaerobic digestion, rather than a fuel produced by geological processes. It can be derived directly from plants or indirectly from agriculture or industrial waste. Bioethanol is an alcohol made by fermentation, it is produced from sugar or starch crops such as corn, sugar cane or sweet sorghum. Biodiesel and ethanol can be used as fuel for vehicles in its pure form but it is usually u...

Time Series Modelling For Total Number Of Defective Parts Of Printed Circuit Boards In The Manufacturing Industry In Ghana

ABSTRACT For stochastic time series modelling, an essential property is the underlying statistical model that is assumed to govern the number of defective parts of printed circuit boards in a production process in the manufacturing industries in Ghana. The data was for a period spanning from 2009 to 2014. Considering time series methodology, we specify differences in the data points as a stochastic process assumed to have Markov dependency with respective state transition probabilities matric...

ISOLATION AND IDENTIFICATION OF BACTERIA FROM FOOD VENDORS AND SOME VEGETABLE AVAILABLE AT OGBETE MARKET ENUGU

ABSTRACTSafety of food is a basic requirement of food quality. A total of 25 street food samples (Jollof rice, egwusi soup, ugu, water leaf and green), were randomly purchased from five different vendors in Ogbete main market Enugu. The samples were transported in ice to the laboratory. The samples were bacteriologically analyzed using pour plate technique and sub-culture. Pour plate techniques was done by carrying out serial dilution of the sample after which the first tube and the last tube...

CONTROL OF THE COWPEA BEETLE CALLOSOBRUCHUS MACULATUS (F.) ( COLEOPTERA: BRUCHIDAE) ON STORED COWPEA USING VEGETABLE OILS

ABSTRACT Coconut oil and two types of palm oil (Palmin oil and Frytol oil) were evaluated for the control of the cowpea beetle, Callosobruchus maculatus (F.) on stored cowpea. The oils were applied at the rate of 4, 6 and 10 ml per kg cowpea. Oil treatment reduced oviposition and progeny emergence but did not affect the longevity of the adult insects. The highest dosage of 10 ml per kg seed protected the seeds for five months. Palmin oil appeared superior to coconut and frytol oil. The oils h...

Sustainable Petroleum in Ghana (Urea Fertilizer Production)

ABSTRACT Petroleum production causes a wide array of sustainability impacts, including a large share of global greenhouse gas and other emissions. It has also been associated with wider environmental and human rights impacts during drilling and refining, and occasional but destructive toxic releases from spills and accidents. This project aims at making petroleum production activities more environmentally sustainable, by finding a beneficial use of flared gases. Gas flaring is one of the top...

Integration Of Indigenous And Conventional Drought Prediction And Preparedness Techniques As A Drought Risk Reduction Strategy In Mbeere North Sub-County, Kenya

ABSTRACT The study examines the prospects of integration of Indigenous Knowledge (IK) and conventional drought prediction and preparedness practices, with an overall aim of applying the two approaches as a Drought Risk Reduction (DRR) strategy in Mbeere North Sub-County of Embu County, Kenya. The objectives of the study included: To examine the perceptions of the Ambeere community on drought and its impact on the livelihoods; To document the main indigenous drought prediction and preparedness...

Determinants Of Loan Repayment Of Government Funding To Vulnerable Groups, A Case Of Biashara Fund In Kiambu County, Kenya

Such, has however not been possible as at times, the rate of defaulters has been reported to be substan...

Relationship Between Forest Cover, Dietary Intakes and Anemia Prevalence Among Women In Selected Communities In Southwest Cameroon

ABSTRACT Background and objective: Forest cover has been associated with better diets and nutritional status. We investigated whether living in close proximity to forest cover was associated with better diet quality and anaemia prevalence among women of reproductive age in Southwest Cameroon. Methodology: Comparative cross-sectional survey of 247 randomly selected women of reproductive age from four forest-based villages (n=126) and four non-forest villages (n=121). A semi-structured questi...

PRODUCTION OF JUICE FROM PINEAPPLE AND WATERMELON

1.0 INTRODUCTION Fruit is a structural part of plant that contain seeds, normally fleshly, sweet and edible in a raw states, which includes; oranges, grapes, strawberries, juniper berries, pineapple and watermelon e.t.c (Abano, 2010). They are ripe ovaries or carpets that contain seed (McGee, 2004). Fruit contain various phytochemical compounds that are similar in composition to vegetables. All fruits contain a high percentage of water averaging 85% fat, protein and carbohydrate (cellulose an...
