ABSTRACT A solar dryer integrated with a simple bed rock was designed and constructed with locally available materials to dry tomatoes and pepper. The dryer was composed of solar collector, drying chamber, back up heater and airflow system all integrated together. The back-up heater provided alternative heating during cloudy weather conditions or at night when solar radiations were low. The dryer was designed based on climatic conditions of Ikale summit located in Ikale, Ekiti Nigeria. The ...

Nutrition education being a component of health education is propitious to create awareness on how to source, prepare, combine and use food resources for promoting good health among all groups of human beings; especially pregnant women who need adequate nutrition for their physiological needs and improve the health of both the mother and fetus. Studies have suggested that women have low dietary intake of fruits and vegetables. The Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) are a framework globally a...
Abstract: Abstract: Spoladea recurvalis F. is a major pest moth of amaranth (Amaranthus spp.) flowers worldwide, with a potential of causing complete foliage loss under severe outbreaks. Chemical insecticides are uneconomical for resource-poor farmers and pose health and environmental risks. Host plant resistance (HPR) to insects is an effective, economical and environmentally friendly alternative that is poorly understood and largely unexploited among traditional leafy vegetables. A total of...
ABSTRACT This study was conducted to investigate the potential of tamarind fruits in jam production with a view to improving utilization efficiency of the fruits thereby adding value to the tree and encouraging its cultivation and sustainable management. The fruits for the study were collected from Bishop Ajayi Crowther University, in Atiba Local Government Area of Oyo town, Oyo State and Taironi Local Government Area of Kano State, Nigeria. ABSTRACT This project “Characteristics Of Local Produced Oil From Groundnut Oil” was carried out using ten cups of groundnut seeds that was purchased from a local market in Enugu metropolis. The oil these seeds were in Enugu using solvent extraction method. Two different solvents were used in the extraction namely: Ethane and order to compare their yield, physical and chemical properties. The extraction was carried out using 32og of size-reduced groundnut with 100ml of 17-hexane while ...
ABSTRACT The purpose of this study was to access the determinants of cocoa production under the new cocoa policies in Osun State, Nigeria. The cocoa policies reviewed were soil fertility, access to inputs, pest and diseases, access to credit, access to land and land management, access to information and they were examined to check if it has impact on cocoa production. ABSTRACT Alpha amylase enzyme (EC 3.2..1. 1) (a-1, 4 glucan-glucanohydrolase) is widely distributed in nature such as plants, animals and microorganisms. Production of extracellu Jar alpha-amylase from fungi was isolated from rhizosphere of Moringa oleifera. Three (3) fungi isolates were selected after serial dilution of the soil samples, four optimization parameters was employed to determine the enzyme activity and they include effect of inoculum size, pH, nitrogen source and surfactant·on...

Previous studies have produced mixed results on the influence of magnetic fields on the fermentation kinetics and growth of various types of Saccharomyces cerevisiae. We carried out two experiments to assess the role of magnetic fields on cell growth and ethanol production during fermentation. The first of these experiments took place for 25 h, with a dextrose loading rate of 2%, and the magnetic fields were both homogeneous and non-homogeneous with intensities of 100 and 200 mT. The second e...
ABSTRACT The study was conducted to analyse production risk and technical efficiency of lowland rice farms in Ashanti region using adjusted stochastic production frontier. Cross sectional data for 2014 cropping season was collected from 200 sampled rice farms using multistage sampling technique. The results of the study revealed very low utilization of improved seed (42.8 kg/ha) by famers as against the standard quantity of 100kg/ha. Among the farm inputs used, fertilizer and improved seed we...
