ABSTRACT
This study examined the impact of instructional materials in the teaching and learning of chemistry in secondary schools. The purpose was to investigate if instructional materials influences the academic performances of students chemistry. The survey type of descriptive research design was adopted . the sample for the study consisted of 5 secondary schools with 75 students and 25teachers in Ika South  Local Government  Area of Delta State. Four hypothesis were postulated and tested at 0.05level of significance. The data collected were analyzed using chi0sqaure revealed that there is no significant differences in the achievement of students taught using standard instructional material and those taught with improvised materials. Again, there was a significant difference between adequacy of laboratory equipment and student achievement. Also there was and significant differences between the mastery of chemistry concept and instructional materials and students performances. Thus, chemistry teachers need to be resourceful instructional materials section, planning and utilization so as to reduce the cost of production and maintenance of instructional, materials.
