ABSTRACT This study investigated the characterisation of the dyamnic responses of 3 dimensional Lorenz md Rosler models by Lyapunov's exponents using popular but laborious to implement Grahm Schmidt orthogonal rules over wider range of models driven parameters. The study also verifies a new proposed model for the validation of Lyapunov's spectrum when the requisite matrix depends on position of the model attractor.
ABSTRACT Qualitative description of reservoir fluids is normally based on such parameters as saturation pressure, gas in solution, viscosity and density. Most Engineers ignore compositional data unless when phase behavior predictions or compositional simulation are to be undertaken. This work describes a simple, quick method of qualitative reservoir crude assessment, using the well known Type Curve matching techniques with fluid compositional data. The method is demonstrated for some Niger De...
ABSTRACT This paper presents the description and thermodynamic analysis of a new hybrid system of solar powered water heater and adsorption ice maker. Mathematical models were generated based on heat transfer in the collector, heat and lpuass transfer within the adsorbent-adsorbate pair and the themodynamics of the adsorption process. The numerical models developed from finite difference transformation of the resulting equations were developed into a MATLAB computer code for easy implementat...
Abstract: The traditional welding flux development is by lengthy and costly trial and error experiments and the optimum welding flux formulation is not guaranteed. This paper presents discussions on promising multiobjective decision making (MODM) methods that can mitigate the limitations of the traditional approach to welding flux design. The methods are weighted-sum scalarization (WSS), desirability indices, goal programming and compromise programming. The steps a welding flux designer (WFD...
ABSTRACT Greenhouse is a feasible option for sustainable crop production in the regions of adverse climatic conditions. For a succe5sM greenhouse design, the selection of shape and orientation is of paramount importance. In this study, three most commonly used single span shapes of greenhouses namely even-spin, uneven-span and vinery type have be& selected for comparison. The length, width and height (at the center) are kept same for all the selected shapes. The relevance of this paper was t...
ABSTRACT Engineering materials, mostly steel, are heat treated under controlled sequence of heating and cooling to alter their physical and mechanical properties to meet desired engineering applications. In this study, the effect of heat treatment (annealing, normalising, hardening, and tempering) on the microstructure and some selected mechanical properties of NST 37-2 steel were studied. Sample of steel was purchased from local market and the spectrometry analysis was carried out. The stee...
Abstract Early agricultural engineering services required on Nigerian farms were provided by civil engineers and agronomists some of who later retrained to form the first crops of Nigerian agricultural engineers. Agricultural engineering training was substantially done overseas until about the early 1960s when local opportunities started to be available. Agricultural engineering education started with training in farm mechanization laying emphasis on tractorization in the colleges of agricul...
ABSTRACT This paper presents a bicriteria formulation of the material allocation to production facilities problem. The system under consideration is a toothpaste factory. Two objectives of the factory were identified, namely; (i) Minimization of the total sum of processing costs (ii) Maximization of the capacity utilization of production facilities. Linear Combination of Objective Functions (LCOF) method was used to solve the problem for the situation where the objectives were of equal impor...
Abstract: Rattan, a non-timber resource in Nigeria’s South-South forests remains largely unexplored. To create schedule for unlocking its potentials, this study investigates its availability, distribution and current utilization pattern in Akwa-Ibom, Bayelsa, Cross-rivers and Rivers States in Nigeria. Information was collected using structured questionnaire and on-the-spot-assessment while data was analyzed using simple statistical tools. The four states has rattan in abundance but unevenl...
ABSTRACT Accurate molecular weights of pure compounds are available and can be readily obtained in the literature. However. those of binary and multi-component mixtures are not readily available and are usually obtained from pure components by applying mixing rules. which may not be very accurate. The molecular weights of n-Nonane+n-Tetradecane. nc;exane+n-Nonane. n-Hexane+Toluene, Toluene+n-Tetradecane and some petroleum liquids were experimental I: determined using a cryoscope. The results...
ABSTRACT In this paper, the problem of optimising cash flow so as to enhance the financial feasibility of a multipart project is considered. The problem has been modelled as a single machine scheduling problem. Several sectors of the Nigerian economy where this problem is encountered are also discussed. A real life problem was solved on a PC using an electronic spreadsheet.
Abstract This study investigated the corrosion resistance of plated and unplated steels useful as ornamentals in saline environment. Nickel plating of carbon steel was done in watts solution for 25minutes with a current density of 3 Adm-3 at 60o C. The nickel plated carbon steel was later gold plated for 20 minutes with a current density of 0.2 Adm-3 at 50o C . The plated and unplated carbon steels were immersed in saline environment for 360 hours. Weight loss was taken every 24 hours in orde...
ABSTRACT Optimization of hatchery production processes was carried out using the Monte Carlo method. In the economics. of engineering decisions with the objective of the investor identifying an optimum solution. an investor chooses his or her optimal solution from the set of scenarios that offer maximum expected return for varying levels of risk. Outcomes associated with these random numbers are then analysed to determine the likely results and the associated risks. Taking a major day old h...
ABSTRACT The four stroke reciprocating internal combustion engine has been used as a case study, being that commonly utilized in most automobiles. General properties of ceramics were discussed while exposure was given to some high performance ceramics. theoretical deduction and analysis were then carried out to show improved engine performance using ceramic components. The engine performance parameters considered are (i) power output (ii) mean effective pressure (iii) speed of engine rotation...
ABSTRACT The grinding wheel is made up of very small, sharp and hard silicon carbide abrasive particles or grits held together by strong porous bond. These silicon carbide abrasive are hard crystalline materials which are held together by the strong, porous bond and these abrasive materials which are of extreme hardness are used to shape other materials by a grinding or abrading action. The paper presents, an analysis of the various component elements we have, the size of the grains and its s...
