Abstract
Induction machine account for about 60percent of the electrical consumption in industrial countries; hence a huge energy savings could be achieved by even a small increment in the machine efficiency. Improving the designs of induction machines requires accurate quantification of the machine losses. A significant portion of the losses in electrical machine is caused by the core losses in the magnetic materials. The physical mechanism of core losses is still an open problem, and most of the available core loss models are based on limited curve fitting techniques, instead of a physical understanding of magnetic materials behavior. In this project, a new method proposes and validates a new analytical core loss models of an induction machine in the arbitrary qdo-frame. The proposed model is based on the machine's dynamic model in the three-phase abc-frame with a core loss branch integrated in each stator phase. The qdo-frame equivalent circuits are obtained using the reference frame transform and are used to drive analytical expression of core loss. Detailed analysis and mathematical derivation of the model are giving as well as simulation implementation and verification in MATLAB/SIMULINK.
