Development Of Autocalibraton Capability For Watershed Resources Management (Wrm) Model

ABSTRACT Simulation of complex hydrological responses in large watersheds over years has prompted the need for procedures for autocalibration. The commonly available models of watershed hydrology are of the event type applicable on a basin scale or continuous models applicable on a field scale. The Watershed Resources Management (WRM) model is a basin-scale model for continuous simulation. It is generally applicable in planning, forecasting and operational hydrology, to the study of environme...

Energy Benchmarking And Carbon Footprint Reduction Opportunities In Portland Cement Manufacturing Processes In Nigeria

ABSTRACT Energy benchmarking and carbon footprint reduction opportunities in Portland cement manufacturing processes in Nigeria are presented. Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) is used to estimate the environmental impact of three cement manufacturing processes in Nigeria. The energy consumption of the cement manufacturing processes are evaluated using energy Benchmarking and Energy Savings Tool for cement (BEST-Cement). BEST-Cement evaluates and compares the energy consumption of the cement manufa...

The Impact Of Implementation Of Change Management Processes On Staff Turnover: A Case Of Zimbabwe Telecommunications Industry

ABSTRACT Telecommunications companies, over the last decade, have undergone major change in terms of the manner in which they do business. The objective of this study was to investigate the impact of change implementation on staff turnover in telecommunications industry by reviewing the following key issues, the effect of change implementation on staff turnover, the implementation of change within the industry, the communication of change initiatives by management in the industry, and the eff...

Dynamic Modelling And Implementation Of Split-Phase Induction Machine

ABSTRACT Multiphase induction machine offers numerous advantages compared to the conventional three phase induction machine. It is an upgrade from the conventional three phase induction machine. By splitting the phase belt of a three phase, a sixphase machine is realised. The areas of application of multiphase machines are enormous, mostly where reliability is paramount. This research presents the modelling and implementation of a split phase induction machine with Saturation and skin effects...

Analysis Of Traffic Congestion In Abakpa–Nike Road Network Intersections

ABSTRACT Abakpa-Nike is notorious for chaotic traffic due to driver's indiscipline and poor road nehvork. This study was therefore undertaken to determine the level of traffic congestion at four major intersections: The Abakpa-Nike- Trans-Ekulu T-Junction; Abakpa-Nike Liberty Junction; Afia Abakpa Junction and Nowas Roundabout Intersection in Abakpa-Nike area of Enugu, Enugu State. These intersections are notorious for high traffic volumes. Vehicular traffic volume were measured to quantify o...

Arduino Based Pedestrian Crossing Control System For Gweru General Hospital

Abstract Pedestrian visitors at Gweru General Hospital are facing challenges crossing the Shurugwi road into the hospital premises due to high vehicular traffic influx to and from town. Thus this Arduino based pedestrian crossing control system has been designed to give priority to these pedestrians so that they can safely cross this perilous main road. The system incorporates the concept of passive pedestrian detection to sense the presence of pedestrians and in turn automatically controls t...

Synthesis Of A Hysteresis Motor

ABSTRACT This work presents the synthesis of a motor with hysteresis motor torque-speed characteristic. The machine is synthesized from a conventional squirrel cage induction motor (SCIM) with high rotor resistance to leakage reactance ratio and a polyphase transfer field (TF) reluctance effect machine with an inverted torque-speed characteristics about the speed axis. Both motors are mechanically coupled and are connected in parallel to the supply. It is shown that the resultant torque which...

The effects of Security mechanisms on VoIP communication Quality of Service

Abstract Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) is one of the most important technologies in the world of communication.Mass business sector VoIP telephony started in 2004 with the presentation of VoIP calling arrangements which allowed endorsers of make calls generally as they would with traditional phone organization administrations [1]. VoIP is the steering of voice conversation over the Internet or some other IP-based system [2]. The voice information streams over a broadly useful parcel exc...

Dynamic Quadrotor Traffic Offense Monitoring System

ABSTRACT The unavailability of strong technologies in the police force as far as traffic offenses are concerned has led to many law violators going unpunished, and the root cause of this is the limitation that all traffic road blocks around the country are totally dependent on human effort or power. The need for cheaper, smarter and efficient traffic monitoring system facilities in the police force has brought to introduction of small unmanned copters that can execute human tasks with less re...

Investigate the Effect of Permeability on the Selection of Diverter in Limestone Matrix Acidizing

This paper will aim at investigating effect of permeability on selecting best diverter in carbonate matrix acidizing. Two types of diverters were used, 15% HCl Gelled Acid and Slickwater+15% HCl. Permeability varied from 50md, 100 and 300md. Results showed that 15% HCl Gelled Acid gave better results than VDA where it had lower skin value and better invasion depth.

A Model To Determine Safe Zone Margin For Mobile Base Station Sites In Residential Areas With Reference To Emarald Hill And Greencroft Residences, Harare, Zimbabwe

ABSTRACT The issue of EMF radiation has for years been received with mixed feelings by all stakeholders. In this study, the relationship between EMF exposure levels with distance from the mobile base station has been illustrated. The contributions of each frequency band used by mobile operators in Zimbabwe, with reference to the area of study has been assessed and compared using well informed data and assumptions. Graphs have been used to clearly show such contributions and matlab was used fo...

Optimal Power Flow Solution To Voltage Collapse In A Deregulated Electricity Market

ABSTRACT The thesis addresses the fundamental means of overcoming the challenge posed by voltage collapse to the success of electricity market unbundling. As regards the record available from the recent deregulation and unbundling of the Generation and Distribution segment of the electric power system, it has become evidently necessary to investigate the best and optimal operating conditions under which the transmission system is expected to perform with respect to the high level of transact...

Optimal Load Frequency Control Of Two Area Power System

ABSTRACT Modern power systems are operated under various constraints which are meant to ensure an appropriate delivery of service. Meanwhile power system faces imbalance in power generation and its consumption in which the higher the load consumption the lower the frequency of operation. The governor-turbine combination will then experience a devastating reduction in its frequency of operation due to disturbance that may lead to system collapse. Both governor and turbine are included in the ...

Development Of Optimal Placement Of Distributed Generators In Electrical Network Using Improved Strength Pareto Evolutionary Algorithm

ABSTRACT In recent times, the issue of the gap between electricity supply and demand has been addressed using distributed generation (DG) technology. When DG technology is properly placed within a transmission and distribution network, there is always improvement in power loss reduction, voltage profile and system reliability. Proper placement can be achieved by evaluating the optimal values for voltage deviation, real power loss and bus voltage. Thus, this study presents a multi-objective D...

Evaluating the Energy and Carbon (IV) Oxide (CO2) Reduction Resulting from Efficient Lighting at the University of Lagos, Nigeria

Abstract This study evaluated the economic and environmental potentials of improving the energy efficiency of the lighting technology at the University of Lagos, Nigeria. The energy audit report for the Faculty of Engineering, University of Lagos before retrofitting shows that all lighting fixtures in the lecture rooms are the 1.2 metre inefficient fluorescent lamps. The cost effectiveness of lighting retrofitting with Compact Fluorescent Lamps (CFL) and Light Emitting Diode tube (LED) light...
