Optimal Location and Sizing of Distributed Generation in Distribution Network Using Adaptive Neuro-Fuzzy Logic Technique

The growing gap between electric power generated and that demanded is of utmost concern especially in developing economy, hence calling for measures to argument the existing power generated of which DG is a more viable aspect to explore in curtailing this challenges; although been confronted with issue of location and sizing. This research applied Adaptive neuro fuzzy logic technique to optimize DG location and size. A 24 bus radial network was used to demonstrate this process and having a su...

IMPACT OF WEATHER VARIABLES ON ELECTRICITY POWER DEMAND FORECAST USING FUZZY LOGIC TECHNIQUE

Fuzzy logic, being a very robust artificial intelligence technique, was employed to forecast short term load in this work. The algorithm was demonstrated with the help of seven months average daily load data collected from Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN). The outcome realized from the model or simulation illustrate that the projected forecasting technique, which propose the use of weather alteration such as temperature and humidity, gives load forecasting results with substantial prec...

Assessing the Benefits and Challenges of Distributed Generation in Nigeria Power Distribution Network

The growing concern for the need to reduce the gap between power generated and power consumed in Nigeria is on the increase. Many measures and policy have been geared by Nigeria Electricity Regulatory Commission and Ministry of Power to revamp the generation aspect of the country power sector but the impact is yet to be felt as the amount of power still generated is far below par compared to other countries. Nigeria average power generation stands at an average of 5800 MW. With the call to...

Drying and Particle Size Characteristics of Danta (Nesogordonia papavereria) and Hard Cross (Vitex doniana) Wood Sawdusts at Different Temperatures.

The drying and particle size characterization of Danta (Nesogordonia papavereria) and HardCross (Vitex doniana) hardwood sawdusts were investigated at temperatures 80 ºC, 90 ºC and105 ℃. The experimental drying data were modeled using eighteen existing drying models. The results showed that the modified Henderson and Pabis model offered the best fit to thedrying curves of Danta and Hard Cross sawdusts. The experimental data obtained from theparticle size distribution of both the samples we...

Production of Soy-Yoghurt by Fermentation of Soymilk with Lactobacillus Isolated from Nunu

The production of soy-yoghurt by fermentation of soymilk with lactobacillus isolated from nunu (a Nigerian indigenous fermented cow-milk) was studied. Soymilk was extracted from whole and dehulled soybean seeds and pasteurized. The fermentation was carried out with both the isolate from nunu and yoghurmet (a commercial yoghurt starter culture of Streptococcus thermophilus and Lactobacillus bulgaricus) as control. The percentage of soymilk inoculated was 70%, 80% and 100% of the broth. Soy-yog...

ADVANCED VEHICLE SIMULATOR (ADVISOR) PERFORMANCE CHARACTERIZATION OF A SERIES HYBRID ELECTRIC VEHICLE

Abstract: Series hybrid electric vehicle (HEV) formed by a combination of internal combustion engine and batteries/ultra capacitors in the appropriate ways, provides high-performance and high efficiency power systems for HEV applications. This paper discusses the performance characteristics of series HEV using advanced vehicle simulator. Different sizes of motor and engine were utilized with various battery capacities to explore the optimal component combinations. A comparative simulation was...

Renewable Energy in Nigeria: A Review

ABSTRACT One of the most important resources of a nation is energy. The significance of energy definitely cannot be overemphasized as it is immensely utilized in our everyday activities as a very germane requirement for survival and robust lifestyle. The amount of energy availability and its usage in a country measures the level of industrialization. Several devices including machines, electronics, household electrical appliances and other domestic equipment and machines, industrial pro...

Analysis of Energy Auditing in Nigerian Power Systems

Abstract  Energy is one of the major drivers for the economic development of any country. In order to reduce energy consumptions for sustainable development, continuous energy audit of industrial machines become necessary. Energy audit  is one of the most  comprehensive  methods in achieving energy  savings  in industry and  thus reducing  excessive  energy consumption.  This  paper  analyzes  energy  auditing  in  power  system  in  or...

Cuckoo Search Algorithm Optimization Approaches for Solving Economic Load Dispatch: A Review

ABSTRACT    Cuckoo search algorithm (CSA) is an effective and highly reliable swarm intelligence basedoptimization approach. It is a technique of determining the most efficient, low cost and reliable operation of a power system by dispatching the available electricity generation resources to supply the load on the system. This paper  presents a comprehensive review of CSA application in Economic Load Dispatch (ELD) problem. This review will assist po...

Use of Smart Controls in Intelligent Well Completion to Optimize Oil and Gas Recovery.

ABSTRACT    For the past few years, the oil and gas industry has faced several economic, geographic and technical challenges largely due to decline in crude oil prices and market volatility.    In the quest to address some of these challenges to accelerate production and subsequently maximize ultimate recovery, operators are limited to remote hydraulic and electro-hydraulic monitoring and control of safety valves providing the means of obtaining downhole production data which demands peri...

RADIOISOTOPE THERMOELECTRIC POWER GENERATION

Sustainable energy sources have been a topic of interest over a period of time for many researchers. Nuclear energy is one of the sources that have long been exploited for generating heat and electricity both in large scale and small scale. One of the methods for converting this heat into electrical power is using thermoelectric generators. Radioisotope thermoelectric generators are currently the longest-lived sources of energy; it does not require any human maintenance or refuelling. This pa...

DESIGN AND CONSTRUCTION OF A MELON DEHUSKING MACHINE

Abstract: Melon dehusking is often associated with lots of manual labour and stresses. In order to reduce the stress and boredom usually involved in manual dehusking of melon process, a melon dehusking and separation machine was designed, constructed and tested for operation as presented in this paper. The melon dehusking machine operates on the principle of attrition/friction as opposed to the use of an impact force in the dehusking chamber for shelling of melon seeds. This principle resu...

An Assessment of Krokodilrivier Water Quality in Mpumalanga Province, South Africa.

According to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) ‘s indicator baseline 2017 report of South Africa, the percentage of the population using safely managed drinking water services has remained more or less constant around 91% between 2014 and 2016. The observation of the same variable from 1996 to 2011, shows a significant increase from 76.6% to 89.4%. This therefore means between 2011 and 2016, the change has been insignificant. To have a sample analysis in this regard, on the dynamics...
