Identification and Nutritional Value Assessment of Major Browse Species as Livestock Feed in Kurfa Chele District of East Hararghe Zone, Ethiopia

Abstract: A study was conducted in Kurfa Chele District of East Hararghe Zone with the objective of identifying major browse species as livestock feed and evaluate their herbage biomass yield, chemical composition and IVDMD in wet and dry season. Six rural Kebeles were purposively selected for the study. A total of 90 farmers, 15 from each rural Kebeles were randomly selected as respondents. Semi-structured questionnaire was used to collect data. Survey data were analyzed by SPSS software, w...

A Thesis On Chemical Composition, Functional Properties, Sensory Evaluation And Glycemic Index Of Biscuits Produced From Flour Blends Of Unripe Plantain, Soybeans And Carrot

INTRODUCTION Diabetes mellitus often simply referred to as diabetes, is a group of chronic metabolic diseases in which a person has high blood sugar, either because the body does not produce enough insulin or because cells do not respond to the insulin that is produced, this high blood sugar produces the classical symptoms of polyuria (frequent urination), polydipsia (increased thirst) and polyphagia (increased hunger) (Shoback et al., 2011).There are three main types of diabetes mellitus (DM...

Modelling Levels Of Microbial And Chemical Contaminants In Wastewater Used For Peri-Urban Irrigation In The Tamale Metropolis, Ghana

ABSTRACT Wastewater irrigation can pose a variety of potential health risks and also excessive and often imbalanced addition of nutrients to the soil to affect crop production. Thus its use in agriculture without adequate safeguards has been noted to have serious drawbacks for human health and the environment. This study modelled the levels of microbial and chemical contaminants in wastewater used for peri-urban vegetable crop production for both dry and wet seasons and also assessed the eff...

Characterization of Fungal Leaf Spot Disease and Varietal Susceptibility in Sweet Potato (Ipomoea Batatas L.) Grown in Parts of Western Kenya

Abstract/Overview Increased human population has led to increased vulnerabilities to hunger and reduced sources of affordable food. Sweet potato (Ipomoea batatas L.) is a root vegetable with large, starchy, tuberous roots, consumed worldwide. It is a potential food security crop, with high nutritional and economic value. Production of sweet potatoes in Kenya is low due to disease constraints such as sweet potato leaf spot (SPLS). Fungal SPLS results in reduced tuber yield, since the patho...

PRODUCTION TECHNIQUES IN NIGERIAN HOME VIDEO FILMS

AN EVALUATION OF PRODUCTION PROCESS AND CAPACITY UTILIZATION (A CASE STUDY OF NIGERIAN BREWERIES ENUGU)

ABSTRACT This research work aims at critically evaluating the process of production and the extent to which the installed capacity of Nigerian breweries is utilized. The study traced the historical development of the company its range of product and the extent which its capacity is utilized. In collecting data for the research, two sources of data collection were used. They are primary and secondary data sources. The primary data were got through personal outer view and observations. While s...

Physiological Studies On Bacillus Species Isolated Erom Fermented African Locust Bean

A B S T R A C T The physiological activities of Bacillus species that ferment African locust bean (Parkia biqlobosa (Jacq.) BenthJ to produce ' iru1 were investigated. The strains studied belong to the B. subtillis group and Were designated BS1 , BS2, BS3, BLl, BL2, BL4 and BP2. These seven strains showed significant differences (at c* = 0.05) in gtowth and extracellular proteinases production. The following (defecending) Order was obtained for the growth of the organisms in liquid medium: BS...

Diagnosis Of Water Production Using Artificial Neural Network Models

ABSTRACT A data-driven approach to solving the problem of excess water production was the focus of this study. In this research, several reservoir models were simulated for 26 years, and data obtained after simulation was used to develop two artificial neural network models to predict the water cut for various producers. The first 22 years of data obtained from simulation was used to train the first neural network model, and the model was then used to forecast the water cut for the last four...

A Comparative Study of Food Security in Africa Amid Growing Population

It's a comparative study of African countries with the highest GDP against their food production amid the ever growing population to ascertain if truly they are under threat of food security.  Abstract Sustainable food security is every nation’s goal. For a nation to achieve sustainable food security, the food supply must exceed the demand. Using trend analysis, this study is an attempt to compare the nature of food security from 2000 to 2014 in Nigeria to selected African countries in eac...

Heavy Metal Contamination In Agricultural Soils And Water In Dar Es Salaam City, Tanzania

Abstract Heavy metals in soil and water were determined at four points along Msimbazi River valley in Dar es Salaam city, which is popular for vegetable farming. Results indicated that the concentration of chromium in water ranged from (1.414±0.922) to 0.01 mg/L. Maximum and minimum lead concentrations of 0.113 and 0.083 mg/L were detected. The concentration of copper was generally low at all sites, ranging from (0.013±0.005) to (0.016±0.005) mg/L. The concentration of lead in water throug...

Assessment Of Selected Trace Elements In Soil And Vegetable (Spinaca Oleracea) In Ruai, Nairobi City County, Kenya

ABSTRACT Urban farming makes a substantial influence on the household economy of the urban poor especially in developing countries. Urban soil the hot spot of urban farming is a natural sink for contaminants especially the potentially toxic trace elements derived mainly from anthropogenic activities. The sources of trace elements include effluents from sewerage drainage system, unprocessed wastewater from neighboring manufacturing industries in addition to farming activities along polluted r...
