EFFECT OF MESH, BOUNDARY CONDITION AND TURBULENCE MODELS ON TURBULENT SEPERATED FLOW OVER A FORWARD-BACKWARD-FACING STEP

CFD investigation of mesh, boundary condition and location, and the effect of turbulence models on the turbulent separated flow over a forward-backward-facing step. A numerical model was set up to replicate and compare with the model in the literature. The Reynolds number, Re, is 1.7E5  based on step height 50 mm and obstacle length L = 10H. The freestream velocity of air at the inlet is 50 m/s. The simulation was performed using the ANSYS software.

Hyperthermic Treatment of Breast Cancer using Biomedical Antenna

Anatomical variation in the human body presents a complex challenge to design a universal antenna for all. The presence of the human body in close proximity to the antenna also presents a challenge as the near field strongly couples with a lossy medium. Other challenges include design of an antenna that is small in size without affecting its radiation pattern, efficiency, gain etc. In this work design of a biomedical antenna for cancer treatment using voxal parameters for doing SAR (specific ...

Numerical Investigation of Mesh Material Properties on Heat Convection and Conduction of a Vertical Impinging Round Jet onto a Horizontal Surface (Stationary and Moving)

Using Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), this paper investigates the effect of mesh material properties on the heat convection and conduction (fluid-solid interaction) of a vertical impinging round jet onto a stationary and moving horizontal surface, as well as the effect of conjugation in the solid domain. This paper is an excerpt from an assignment in Numerical Thermoflow that was completed in 2021 during my Bachelor of Science Honours in Applied Science Mechanics at the University of Pret...

Development of a Smart Motion Detection Device for Home and Office Security Applications

The aim of this paper is to develop, implement and test an effective and practical working solution to a smart motion detector for LPWAN technologies using appropriate software and hardware platform. The smart motion detection system consists of a Raspberry Pi, an LCD display, PIR sensors, and wires. The hardware design collaborates with Python programming by being installed on a Raspberry Pi, and it is a key function to detect who is entering a room. The proposed smart motion detector wi...

Smart Digital Thermometer for Covid-19 Detection

During the COVID-19 epidemic, taking temperatures has been a major focus. The aim of this project is to implement a prototype of a cheap and high reliability digital temperature measurement device with the aid of Arduino Nano, Infrared temperature sensor (MXL90614), OLED 128 X 64 (0.96-inch screen size), IR sensor and buzzer. This thermometer uses an infrared sensor MXL90614 to detect the body temperature and then sends the reading to the microcontroller. If there is no human presence nea...

Implementation of an Intelligent Motion Detector

This project is intended to provide a solution to a company's problem of developing a smart motion detection device for home and office security applications. The company intends to deploy 100s of these motion detectors throughout the Greater London Area. As a result, each motion detector will require a low power wide area network (LPWAN) wireless interface. Unlike traditional motion detectors, which detect only motion, the proposed motion detector will be able to detect motion direction (...

Development of a Low Cost Automatic Internet of Things Extension System

The aim of this work is to develop a prototype of a low cost automatic internet of things extension system that looks like a regular extension system but can be operated automatically. The extension system is controlled and monitored with the use of a smartphone application. The node MCU, ESP8266, 9V 1A power adapter, breadboard power supply USB – 5V/3.3V, 5V 4-channel relay, and 1602 LCD with I2C are used in the design consideration and execution. The solution is low-cost, and it ...

HVAC VS HVDC Power System: Contemporary Development In HVAC And HVDC Power Transmission System

Abstract: The ability to transfer power in HVAC (High Voltage Alternating Current) system has undergone limitation by reactance when compared with the fact that systems of HVDC (High Voltage Direct Current) can be accumulated to thermal limitation of the conductor. The transfer of power capabilities in HVDC and HVAC systems are compared with reference to their performance in different situations. Technological analysis conversion of existing alternating current (AC) lines into direct curre...

Design and Implementation of Real Time Pricing System in Smart Grids

This paper focuses on incorporating a real time pricing in smart grids system. This scheme of real time pricing makes it possible to manage the load from the demand side or consumer side. This would provide several benefits to the domestic consumers too, apart from industrial consumers. In addition to conservation, real time pricing also comes along way in protecting and preserving the quality of equipment used by the power utility company. Real time distribution aims towards a unifo...

ENGINEERING CHARACTERIZATION OF OGBEKE CLAY DEPOSIT FOR INDUSTRIAL APPLICATION

The engineering characterization of Ogbeke clay deposit has been investigated with a view of finding its usefulness in furnacerefractory production and home. The chemical composition analysis was carried out using Atomic Absorption Spectroscopy (AAS).The physical properties tests such as shrinkage, porosity, water absorption, modulus of rupture, refractoriness, moisture content, plasticity, cold crushing strength, thermal shock resistance and particles size analysis were carried out using inte...

Mixed H_2/H_∞ and Robust Predictive to Control Wheeled Mobile Robots with Time Delay

The purpose of this paper is to perform path tracking for a non-holonomic mobile robot subject to kinematic disturbances using model prediction and  H-2/H-infinitycontrol and by Gain-scheduled control law. In this method, the problem of tracking a mobile robot is expressed in such a someway that its kinematic error is in the form of linear parameter variable with bounded disturbance, the purpose of the design is to stabilize the controller by solving the LMI conditions for the error tracking...

Agricultural Automation with Smart Irrigation

As we know, nowadays issues in the agriculture field are a major concern. According to the Union Minister of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Narendra Singh Tomar, 5,579 Indian farmers died by suicide in 2020. There are many conflicting reasons for farmer suicides which are mentioned by Activists and scholars but high debt burdens, crop failure, mental health, and personal issues have been some of the most common causes amongst them. So, what is the solution that would work in farm...
