ABSTRACT Economic historians in about the last forty years have laboured successfully to produce a rich body of literature on diverse aspects of the economic activities of the peoples and government of Nigeria. Their labour has covered areas of trade, transportation, arts and crafts within the formal and the informal sectors of the nation's economy. This notwithstanding, a wide gap still exists in the historiography of the economic history of Nigeria, particularly between the middle of the 19...
ABSTRACT There are a number of crucial issues involved in the study of the philosophy of science. These include the problem of methodology of science, the factors that could enhance the advancement of science, the question of truth and certainty in science as well as the issue of rationality of scientific discoveries. A number of 'idealogies have emerged in response to the challenges posed by the above issues. The relativists, for instance, see scientific truth in terms of a period of referen...

ABSTRACT Chinua Achebe (born Nov. 16, 1930) is a Nigerian novelist, critic, and poet; he is one of the most-read African authors. The primary concern of Chinua Achebe, the recipient of the Man Booker International Prize, 2007, was his society, more precisely, the destiny of his people. Achebe, perhaps the most authentic literary voice from Africa, wrote not only to record the African, especially Nigerian, life but to analyse the reality experienced by the native people in different times...

ABSTRACT The international criminal court statute pledges that most serious crimes of concern to international community must not go unpunished. The novel mechanism to exert jurisdiction over state parties to the treaty intends to enforce international law to protect human rights. The ICC is a reflection of changing perceptions of how the rule of law relates to larger problems of global inequality. The court has been embroiled in criticism that it focuses on criminal cases in Africa and parti...
Abstract This article explores the distinctively heuristic approach to Nollywood video-films used by a Bukusu-speaking audience community in Chwele Market, Western Kenya. As this audience views video-films on witchcraft in particular – which tend to be very popular – the reception process becomes remarkably dialogic. The process illuminates the audience’s adaptation of the video-films into their sociocultural world. Most important is that this audience seems to not only relish, but spea...
IKISIRI Matini yoyote ya fasihi huhitaji kusomwa na kueleweka ili ipate kuwa na maana. Hata hivyo, maana ya matini hujitokeza ikiwa msomaji ataelewa mtindo uliotumika kuisuka. Kakamega County has ...

ABSTRACT This project is an attempt to explore the recurring grave concerning the academic performance of students. Though a large percentage of students in Nigeria learn English as a second language and are instructed in it, the Nigerian pidgin seems to interfere with their acquisition of the language and their performance in it much more than their mother tongues. The impact of pidgin contributes in no small measure to the dismal performance of students in their academic career.
