Phytochemical and heavy metals levels of selected vegetables (Carrot, Lettuce, and Tomato) grown at Kalambaina area Sokoto

The presence study aimed to investigate the phytochemical and heavy metals level in selected vegetables grown in Kalambaina area ,the phytochemical were determined using analytical methods and the heavy metals (Cd, Pb, Zn, Ni, Cr and Cu) concentration in vegetables and water were determined using atomic absorption spectroscopy (AAS). The study indicate the presence of flavanoid, alkaloids, steroids, volatile oil, saponin glycosides in all the vegetables. The concentration of copper was found ...

INCIDENCE AND PREVALENCE OF HEPATITIS C AMONG OUTPATIENTS IN SOME SELECTED HOSPITALS

ABSTRACT Hepatitis C virus (HCV) is a meticulous factor of liver disease and one of the most important health issues worldwide. Hepatitis is the inflammation of the liver produced by autoimmune disease, alcohol or drug abuse, genetic disorder or microbial infection. To detect the presence; prevalence; incidence; and the relationship between the different risk factors of hepatitis C among patients in Ilorin. This study reports on the occurrence of Hepatitis C Virus (HCV) antibodies among pati...

Automotive crash detection and airbag deployment using MEMS accelerometer1

This paper aims to have a brief study on the operation of an airbag deployment system using different sensors. Automobile airbag has gained acceptance over the years as an effective measure to reduce the morbidity and mortality associated with motor vehicle accidents, as such more vehicles have become equipped with them.As noble as the idea sounds new problems have been encountered with the deployment system and its relative sensors which have led to the following injuries retinal damage caus...

THE EFFECT OF DIFFERENT SUBSTRATES ON THE PHENOTYPE, NUTRITIONAL, PHYTOCHEMICAL COMPOSITION AND ANTIOXIDANT ACTIVITY OF PLEUROTUS PULMONARIUS

ABSTRACT Mushroom has been an important food to man for millennia. Several species of Pleurotus has been cultivated successfully on different substrates including Palm bunch, Saw dust and Corn cob. Pleurotus pulmonarius has also been cultivated but there is a gap in knowledge as to the effect of different substrates on the phenotypic, nutritional, phytochemical and antioxidant ...

Sorption of refampicin on variable soil

Sorption and desorption of rifampicin was assessed on three different soil. Sorption mechanism was studied in terms of equilibrium and kinetics at different pH. Linear, Freundlich and Langmuir isotherm models were adopted to study the isotherm. The experimental data were best described by pseudo-second order kinetics (R2 = 1.00). It was observed that rifampicin absorbs better on soil with lowest organic carbon content. Sorption was observed to increase with decrease in aqueous pH and increase...

EFFECT OF CELLGEVITY ON CATALASE ACTIVITY OF RAT MODEL OF PARKINSON DISEASE

Parkinson’s disease is a degenerative neurological disease, which is characterized by the preferential death of dopaminergic neurons in the Substantia Nigra. Current drug treatments are aimed primarily for the treatment of symptoms to improve the quality of life. Therefore, there is a need to find out new therapeutic strategies that not only provide relief but also halt or reverse the neuronal damage hampering PD progression, thus this research therefore aimed at investigating the impact o...

EVALUATION OF DELTAMETHRIN ON SITOPHILUS ZEAMAIS

ABSTRACT Laboratory experiments were conducted to evaluate the effects of deltamethrin dust as a protectant of maize against Sitophilus zeamais under ambient laboratory conditions of 27 ± 3°C and 70 ± 5% relative humidity. Four sets of fifty grams of disinfested maize grains were measured into jars in four replicates. Each replicate was infested with ten 0-7days old adult S.zeamais. Each set of three replicates were treated separately with 0.25g, 0.187g and 0.125g of deltamethrin while th...

Effect of Emilia Sonchifolia on Globulin and Bilirubin level of Winter rat

ABSTRACT  The place of adequate nutrition in the live of the young especially in the recently weaned cannot be overemphasized. The abrupt change in diet, leading to possible immune system weakness and disease conditions, is a focal point in the care of the young. This project examined serum globulin and bilirubin levels in weanling rats whose feed was supplemented with Emilia sonchifolia leaf extract.Present investigation were carried out on the effect of ethanolic extract of Emilia Sonchifo...

Discrete time mathematical SIR model for disease transmission

ABSTRACT: Infectious  disease  has  become  a  source  of  fear  and  superstition  since  the first  ages  of  human  civilization.  In  this  study,  we  consider  the  Discrete  SIR  model for  disease  transmission  to  explain  the  use  of  this  model  and  also  show  significant explanation  as  regard  the  model.  We  discuss  the  mathematics  behind  the  model and  various  tools  for  judging  effectiveness  of  policies  ...

Design of an Online Tutorial System

Information Technology has revolutionized the way we go about doing our daily activities. The web for instance has revolutionized the way information can be accessed thereby making the world a global village.  The impact of information technology has grown to the level that virtually all domains of life now has everything in Electronic. Now we have E-Commerce, E-Examination, E-Voting, E-Registration. The availability and deployment of all of these is made possible with the use of the Intern...

Design and Implementation of a Web Based Course Registration System

A Students Web Based Course Registration System is a subsection of the Management Information System (MIS) that obtains its input from the transaction processing system; a subsection of the Business Information System (BIS). Business Information System (BIS) is the base of a Management Information System in any institution with the sole aim of integrating human, business and technology together in order to achieve efficiency in the execution of duties, thus the MIS provides information that i...

Codigestion of Oryza sativa Husks and Musa paradisiaca Peels for the Production of Biogas

Oryza sativa husks and peels of Musa paradisiaca were pretreated by hydrothermal and acid fermentation using cassava mill effluent, and co-digested in a laboratory scale reactor maintained at 45 ± 2 ⁰C for 42 days. Five digesters were used for the experiment and each digester contained equal proportion of Oryza sativa husks and Musa paradisiaca in the ratio of 1:1; and cow dung (the inoculum) was added across. Substrate in Digester X (Control) was not pretreated. Digester A contained Oryza...
