EVALUATION OF LIMESTONE TEXTURAL AND GEOCHEMICAL COMPOSITION IN ONIGBEDU, OGUN STATE, IN RELATION TO ITS INDUSTRIAL USAGE AND DEPOSITIONAL ENVIRONMENT

Field relationship, petrographical studies and geochemical analysis were combined in investigating the depositional environment and industrial viability of limestone beds in Purechem’s quarry at Onigbedu. Field observation indicates a homogenous lithology of the beds with variation in textural and clastic composition. Petrographic study revealed that the limestone falls under the Biospamicrite and Wackestone classification based on the works of Folks, (1959) and Dunham, (1962) respectively....

EFFECT OF PROCESSING ON THE CHEMICAL, FUNCTIONAL AND ANTI NUTRITIONAL PROPERTIES OF AFRICAN YAM BEAN (AZIMA)

African yam bean (Sphenostylisstenocarpa) is an underutilized food legume crop in the tropics that is not as popular as other food legumes crop (Moyib et al., 2008). It is one of the neglected indigenous grain legumes in Nigeria. It is produced mostly in the eastern part of the country where it is consumed in different forms such as snacks, delicacy, man meal etc. It can be used for the fortification of other foods (Eke, 1997) The high protein content of African yam bean makes it an important...

DESIGN AND IMPLEMENTATION OF A WEB-BASED E-LEARNING SYSTEM FOR CONTINUING EDUCATION (CASE STUDY OF RIVERS STATE POLYTECHNIC, BORI)

ABSTRACT Research works in the field of electronic learning are represented by a broad spectrum of applications, ranged from virtual classrooms to remote courses or distance learning. In this project work I propose a simple web-based e-learning system, in which, students can carry out their registration process, get access to course materials and make contact with their course lecturers. In addition, teachers can track the activities of their students and can guide them to reach the pre-deter...

BACTERIOLOGICAL ANALYSIS OF WELL WATER IN NEW HAVEN, IN ENUGU URBAN AREA

ABSTRACT Samples of well water were collected from four (4) different wells  located in different parts of New Haven in Enugu urban area, for  bacteriological analysis. Total bacterial counts, using pour plate  method were carried out. Nutrient agar plates were used for  general bacterial count, while MacConkey agar plates were used  for total coliform count. The four different wells that were  examined showed different bacterial counts. A total of four  different bacteria were isolat...

THE MICROORGANISMS AND COMPOUNDS INFLUENCING THE ORGANOLEPTIC PROPERTIES OF UGBA (FERMENTED Pentaclethra macrophyllea BENTH SEEDS)

ABSTRACT Ugba is a delicacy popular among the Ibo ethnic group of Nigeria, made by the fermentation of boiled seeds of African oil bean (Pentaclethra macrophyllea Benth). The microorganisms and compounds influencing the organoleptice properties of ugba were studied. The pure cultures of these microorganisms isolated from (ugba) sample produced by traditional method, were used in singles and in combinations to ferment African oil bean shreds. The ugba so fermented were analyzed organoleptical...
