Human Genetic Markers and Structural Prediction of Plasmodium falciparum Multidrug Resistance Gene (pfmdr1) for Ligand Binding in Pregnant Women

Te study aims to determine the association of malaria infection with ABO blood groups and genotype and also to detect point mutations at positions 86, 184, 1034, and 1042 of the Plasmodium falciparum multidrug resistance gene (pfmdr1) in blood samples collected from pregnant women attending General Hospital Minna. Out of 250 pregnant women screened, 39 (15.60%) had malaria infection. Prevalence was higher in women, during the third trimester (46.15%), genotype AA (64.10%), and O blood group (...

POLYETHYLENE GLYCOL – MODIFIED NANOCARRIER ENCAPSULATION OF DIMINAZENE ACETURATE IMPROVED HAEMATOBIOCHEMICAL RECOVERY IN TRYPANOSOMA BRUCEI BRUCEI INFECTED RATS

Abstract The enhanced safe drug delivery properties of polyethylene glycol (PEG) – modified  Diaminazene aceturate nanocomposite against Trypanosoma brucei infected rats were evaluated.  The drug conjugation was carried out by adding gold nanoparticle to PEG and diminazene aceturate. A group of infected rats were treated with free diaminazene aceturate, while other groups were treated with conjugated drug at different drug release time interval. Results revealed complete parasite clear...

Analysis and Mechanical Performance of Stone Dust Reinforced Al (6063)

Abstract This research technically aims at utilizing stone dust as reinforcement to check the mechanical properties of Al(6063) with different weight ratio of the reinforcement. The alloy consisting of 0, 2, 6 and 10 wt% of the reinforcements were produced using double stir casting method. Evaluation of the microstructure, percentage porosity check, measurement of density and mechanical properties of the composites produced were used to check the performance levels of the composite produced. ...

DESIGN AND IMPLEMENTATION OF A VIRTUAL E-LEARNING SYSTEM

ABSTRACT The demand to acquire knowledge or to learn has rise, thus, the present technology had gone a long way to provided means to learn, irrespective of the distance or the location of the E-learner and source of information. This is achieved through electronic sharing of information and virtual classroom. However, virtual classroom and text based e- learning is a system design to help student gain access and acquire knowledge in any university of their choice. This method of learning ...

Integrated geophysical investigation of foundation condition beneath a site earmarked for a civil engineering construction project

Geophysical investigation involving the electrical resistivity method was carried out at a site earmarked for construction of a Lecture Theatre at the Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospital Complex (OAUTHC) in Ile-Ife, Osun State Nigeria. The aim was to generate 2-D subsurface images beneath the site which will provide the required geological information for location and design of the building foundation.  The geophysical investigation involved the 2-D imaging technique which utilized ...

DEPTH TO MAGNETIC SOURCE ANALYSIS USING SOURCE PARAMETER IMAGING (SPI), ANALYTICAL DEPTH AND SPECTRAL DEPTH ESTIMATES

Four sheets of aeromagnetic data, which are the aeromagnetic map of Nsukka, Udi, Nkalagu, and Igunmale were obtained from the Nigerian Geological Survey Agency, these areas are within the Lower Benue trough and Anambra Basin, Southeast of Nigeria. Oasis Montaj 6.4.2, ArcGIS 10.2.2, Surfer 11, and Excel 2016 software, were used in the processing and interpretation of the aeromagnetic data obtained qualitatively and quantitatively. The results of the qualitative interpretation on application of...

Trend of Neonatal Mortality in Nigeria from 1990 to 2017 using Time Series Analysis

The study examined the incidence of the rate of Neonatal Mortality in Nigeria. The incidence tested with use of Time Series Analysis (ARIMA). The trend plot of the incidence shows that there has been steady decrease in the incidence rate over the years. The series was stationarity using the Augmented Dickey-Fuller (ADF) Test, the result found to be stationary. The Correlogram of the incidence also supports the stationarity of the series at 1% level of significance. The model that best describ...

A TIME SERIES ANALYSIS OF DAILY EXCHANGE RATE OF U.S DOLLAR TO NAIRA FROM 2016-2017 (RECESSION PERIOD)

ABSTRACT  This project presents an empirical study of time series modeling and forecasting of the official daily Exchange rate of Nigeria Naira for US Dollar in terms of buying rate, central rate and selling rate, from the period of 1st January 2016 to 19th of May 2017 (recession period). In this view, Box Jenkins approach was applied for the modelling of naira/dollar daily exchange rate using ARIMA model. The results of the analysis show that the series became stationary after first differ...

Design and Implementation of an Offline Android-based English to Igbo and Yoruba Machine Translation System

ABSTRACT Machine Translation system is an automated system that translates text from a source language to target language. The source language is the main language upon which the target language is derived, while target language is the semantic equivalence of the source language. The source language and target language are described as the input and output to the MT system respectively. Machine translation is an area of applied research in human language ...

ISOLATION AND CHARACTERIZATION OF LUPEOL FROM THE METHANOL LEAF EXTRACT OF TAPINANTHUS DODONEIFOLIUS GROWING ON VITEX DONIANA

Tapinanthus dodoneifolius belongs to the family Loranthaceae and is widely distributed in West Africa, Europe and Asia, commonly known as mistletoe. It exhibits a wide array of pharmacological activities including antimalarial,  anticonvulsant, anti- microbial, and is effective in the relief of menstrual and stomach pain. Lupeol, a pentacyclic triterpenoid was isolated for the first time from the methanol leaf extract of Tapinanthus dodoneifolius and characterized by spectral analysis. Th...

Improvement of 2-Vessel Occlusion Cerebral Ischaemia/Reperfusion-Induced Corticostriatal Electrolyte and Redox Imbalance, Lactic Acidosis and Modified Acetylcholinesterase Activity by Kolavir

Abstract Disruption of electrolyte, redox and neurochemical homeostasis alongside cellular energy crisis is a hallmark of cerebral ischaemia and reperfusion injury.  This study investigated the effect of kolaviron (KV) on cortical and striatal cation imbalance, oxidative stress and neurochemical disturbances as well as neurobehavioural deficits in animals subjected to bilateral common carotid artery occlusion (BCCAO)-induced ischaemia/reperfusion injury. KV was administered at a dose of 100...

A MULTI-WAVELENGTH VIEW OF M17 MASSIVE STAR-FORMING REGION

ABSTRACT In this project (A Multi-Wavelength View of M17 Massive Star-Forming Region), efforts were made to determine the distributions of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) within the M17 region. We find that PAHs are destroyed over a short distance or edge of the HII region. This PAH destruction edge can be located easily using Galactic Legacy Infrared Mid-Plane Survey Extraordinaire (GLIMPSE) band-ratio images. We try to find out the relative roles of extreme ultraviolet (EUV) and...

Design and Implementation of a Digital Library system

ABSTRACT Libraries have been an important part of educational and information sector of any school.  The success of any library largely depends on proper management. Several libraries have suffered failure as a result of inadequate management and incapacitations in handling sensitive information as regards members of the library.   This research therefore, aimed at developing a digital library system, which will help direct and position library to meets its ever increasing demands. In the...
