Investigation into the weathering layer using up-hole method of seismic refraction.

This paper is aimed at using up-hole method of seismic refraction survey to investigate the thickness of the weathering layer as well as the velocity of seismic waves through the layer. The first events to arrive at the geophones on a refraction profile had travelled by refraction along the top of the high speed zone just below the weathering layer. Using the time- offset curves of the first arrivals for shots from different charge depths; the thickness of the weathering layer was calculated ...

Integration of Aeromagnetic Data and Landsat Imagery for Structural Analysis: A Case Study of Awgu in Enugu State, South-Eastern, Nigeria.

In this study, digital format data comprising of aeromagnetic and remotely sensed (Landsat ETM+7) data were used for structural interpretation of the Awgu area in Enugu State, southeastern part of Nigeria, predominantly underlain by sedimentary rocks. Aeromagnetic data were analyzed using the Oasis Montaj 7.5 software and interpretation was carried out using the vertical and horizontal gradients, analytical signal, reduction to pole, tilt depth as well as Euler deconvolution. The total magnet...

Integration of Aeromagnetic and Landsat Data in the Analysis of Dump Site (Landfill) in Owerri, Imo State.

Magnetic study over South Eastern Nigeria was performed as part of a multi-technique geophysical investigation. Various magnetic data enhancement procedures such as, qualitative (second vertical derivative, total horizontal derivative, analytic signal, theta map, tilt derivative, total horizontal derivative of tilt derivative and horizontal tilt angle) and quantitative (Werner and Euler deconvolutions)  interpretation techniques were employed to determine their effectiveness in characte...

Determination of subsurface rock properties from AVO analysis in Konga oil field of the Niger Delta, Southeastern Nigeria.

Amplitude variation with offset (AVO) analysis was carried out on Konga oil field, an onshore oil field in the Niger Delta, Southeastern Nigeria. The study consisted of forward modeling from rock parameters measured from well logs and AVO analysis of events on pre-stack time migrated 3D seismic gathers. Forward modeling predicted specific AVO behaviour of anomalous reservoir sands in the field. Density, compressional and shear wave velocity logs, combined with a wavelet extracted from...

Evaluation of Waste Landfill Using 2-D Resistivity Imaging. ( A Case Study Of Iguomo Dumpsite) Edo State, Nigeria

Abstract Municipal solid waste disposal sites can be sources of groundwater contamination and the contamination problems are more likely to occur in humid areas, where the moisture available exceeds the ability of the waste pile absorb water. 2-D resistivity imaging has frequently been used in the subsurface pollution studies. The method maps the distribution of resistivity of subsurface materials. The 2-D resistivity image provides general information on subsurface stratification of buried w...

Modeling the Supply of Pipe Borne Water in Ilorin

ABSTRACT Water as an essential commodity plays a major role in national development, the availability of water through pipe borne to individual, communities, and the country at large will help in achieving the New Millennium Development Goal (MDG7), hence the constant study, analysis and forecast for  supply of water using past water supplied. The supply of pipe borne water from 2009 to 2015 was examined with the aim of developing a working model to forecast future supply of pipe borne water...

STATISTICAL ANALYSIS ON STILL-BIRTH AND LIVE BIRTH-RATE

ABSTRACT Stillbirth remains a public health problem with an estimate of 2.6 million stillbirths in 2015 of which 98% occurred in low- and middle-income countries and over three-quarters of these occurring in Sub-Saharan Africa (SSA) and south Asia. Further, only ten countries carry the burden of over 65% of total stillbirths in the world including Nigeria in the second position. The objective of this analysis is to estimate stillbirth rates and identify the determinants of stillbirth in Haji...

QUALITATIVE PETROPHYSICAL ANALYSIS OF WELL LOG DATA FROM WABI FIELD_By Popoola, Oladotun, 2015

ABSTRACT Qualitative Petrophysical Analysis of Wabi 10 well, located in the Wabi Oil Field in the Niger Delta was carried out. The wire-line log comprising of gamma rays, resistivity and neutron – density logs provided by Total Exploration and Production Nigeria Limited (TEPNL) was used. The properties considered include Lithofacies, the Permeable and Impermeable beds with their b...

ANALYSIS OF CURRENCY DEVALUATION IN NIGERIA

ABSTRACT The primary aim of this project is to estimate the long run relationship between economic growth and currency devaluation. This project investigated the impact of currency devaluation on economic growth of Nigeria. This was achieved through a review of literature. In order to generate the necessary data for this research, the Central Bank of Nigeria Statistical Bulletin of and publications of the National Bureau of Statistics were used for the period of 2008 to 2017. The error co...

Effects of Infestation by Bruchid Beetles on the Nutritional Quality and Sensory Properties of Cowpeas.

The effects of infestation by Callosobruchus maculatus on the chemical, nutritional and sensory properties of three cowpea varieties were investigated. Proximate analysis showed that infestation led to an increase in moisture content by 28.6% on the average. Decreases of 10.6%, 46.5% and 11.4% in crude protein, ash and soluble carbohydrate content respectively were observed. For the three cowpea varieties, the minerals sodium, calcium and magnesium decreased by 6.7%, 10% and 1.3% respectively...

The impact of cooking on the proximate composition and anti-nutritional factors of water yam (Dioscorea alata)

Raw and boiled water yam tubers (Dioscorea alata) were analyzed for proximate contents such as ash, crude protein, carbohydrate, crude fibre, crude lipid, energy and anti-nutrients using standardprocedures and methods. The crude protein contents (10.27%), ash (2.93%) and lipid (0.15%) weresignificantly (p

SAFETY OF AZADIRACHTA INDICA OIL

Abstract— Raw Azdirachta indica seed oil is gradually adopted by local farmers as a protector of stored grains and legumes against the common insects, but with some reservations on its safety. The study investigated the safety A. indica on mammalian objects using haematological and antioxidant indices. A. indica seed was obtained from the trees in the same location in Utu Ikot Ukpong, Essien Udim Local Government Area, Nigeria. The Albino rats were  obtained from the Animal House of Bioch...

Rheological Properties of Gums Extracted from Detarium microcarpum and Colocasia esculenta in Comparism with a Standard: Gum Arabic

AbstractGums were extracted and purified from Colocasia esculenta and Detarium microcarpum.Rheological properties ofthese gums in comparism with a standard,Gum Arabic were determined.Result showed that gums from D.microcarpum(0.0113cps) and C.esculenta (0.0110cps) exhibited Newtonian characteristics and had higher apparent viscosity than GumArabic (0.0109cps).These gums exhibited shear thickening characteristics when apparent viscosity was plotted against shearrate.Density values for extracte...

Nutritional Quality of Wheat Biscuits Fortified with Soybean and Bambara Groundnut Flours.

AbstractNutritional quality and hematological indices of rats fed biscuits made from wheat flour fortified with casein, soybean and Bambara groundnut flours were investigated. Wheat flour (WF) was blended in each case with cooked, blanched and cooked/blanched soybean (SF) and Bambara groundnut (BGF) flours in the ratios of 70:30 (WF:SF) and 70:30(WF:BGF), respectively and used for the production of short soft dough biscuits. The resulting biscuit flours were used forthe formulation of test diet...
