THE CHEMICAL QUALITY OF WELL WATER IN ABUJA COMMUNITY SUBURB OF IKORODU

ABSTRACT Well water samples were collected from different household wells in Ifedapo Estate in Abuja community of Ikorodu Local Government Area, Lagos State, Nigeria. The samples of the well were analyzed for their physiochemical properties. The physiochemical properties of the water samples were analyzed using standard methods. The pH and Temperature ranged from 6.41-7.11 and 26.79-27.370C respectively. The bicarbonate and sulphates value were in the range of (28.41-31.41mg/l) and (17.42-28....

PHYSICAL PROPERTIES OF CAKE FROM WHEAT FLOUR USING AVOCADO PASTE AS FAT REPLACER

ABSTRACT Avocado (Persea Americana) paste was utilized to substitute wheat (Triticum aestivum) flour as fat replacer in the production of cake. This study examined the effect of avocado paste substitutions at various proportions in production of cake. The proportions were 100% wheat flour, 95:5%, 90 :10%, 85 : 15%, 80 : 20%, 75 : 25% and 70 : 30% avocado paste. Colour analysis and texture of the cake was evaluated. Results shows L*, a* and b* value of the cakes ranged from 48.56-54.96, 4.83-6...

Consumption of green tea (Camellia sinensis)

ABSTRACT Consumption of green tea (Camellia sinensis) may provide protection against chronic diseases, including cancer. Green tea polyphenols are believed to be responsible for this cancer preventive effect, and the antioxidant activity of the green tea polyphenols has been implicated as a potential mechanism. This hypothesis has been difficult to study in vivo due to metabolism of these compounds and poor understanding of the redox environment in vivo. Green tea polyphenols can be direct an...

The effects of modernization of ancient Kano city gates

This study examined the effects of modernization of ancient Kano city gates. Three local governments namely Kano Municipal, Nassarawa and Tarauni were used for this study, covering 150 respondents that were purposively sampled with 50 from each of the 3 local governments. Also, field surveys were carried out at all the 15 gates, discussions were held with the gatekeepers, the curator of Kano State museum and other observations were made from the data collected. Results obtained revealed that ...

Chemical changes in African Star Apple (Chrysophyllum albidium) fruits

ABSTRACT The study investigated the chemical changes inAfrican Star Apple (Chrysophyllum albidium) fruits prior to onset of rains and during the rainy season, with the aim of ascertainingits optimum consumption quality. The fruits were harvested from the School of Agriculture and Agricultural Technology, Federal University of Technology, Akure. Chemical analysis was carried out on the edible parts of the African star apple fruit(both the pulp and whitish seed coat). The result showed signific...

LIPIDS COMPOSITION IN THE EGG SHELL OF DOMESTIC FOWL

ABSTRACT Poultry eggs are eaten in most areas of the world with fewer social taboos associated with them than pigs and cattle. The most commonly used bird eggs are those from chicken. In Nigeria, the domestic foul dominates the poultry industry. Of the 120 million indigenous poultry population in Nigeria, the domestic fowl constitutes about 91 % of this. For this reason, the present work tried to evaluate the nutritional levels of the lipid composition of the free-range fertilized cooked chic...

Antioxidant Defense System in a Germinating P.Vulgaris

Phaseolus vulgaris, Common Bean is a herbaceous annual plant grown worldwide for its edible dry seed (known as just "beans") or unripe fruit (green beans) and a member of the legume family Fabaceae.  They are quite popular amongst the natives because of its high protein, minerals and vitamins content (Gentry et al., 1999). The use of a wide range of chemicals to destroy pests and weeds is an important aspect of agricultural practice in both developed and developing countries but there is a w...

The Role of Transport in Quality Healthcare Delivery

ABSTRACT This project seeks to link the role of transport to quality healthcare delivery. The main objective of the study was to assess the role of transport in quality healthcare delivery. A variety of primary and secondary data were employed to gather data to respond to the study research questions. The primary data for the study were collected from the respondents through questionnaire administration and oral interview conducted by the researcher. Descriptive statistics was adopted to anal...

The geochemical and mineralogical composition of the sediment penetrated by Tuma-1 in Chad (Bornu) Basin Northeastern Nigeria by XRF geochemical analysis

CHAPTER ONE INTRODUCTION 1.1 General Statement The Nigerian sector of  the Chad  Basin, known locally as the  Bornu Basin,  is one of  Nigeria’s inland basins occupying the northeastern part of the country. It represents about one-tenth of the total area extent of the Chad Basin, which is a regional large structural depression common to five countries, namely, Cameroon, Central African Republic, Niger, Chad, and Nigeria. The Bornu Basin falls between latitudes 110N and 140N and longitu...

Interval Velocity Estimations from Seismic Reflection Data

ABSTRACT The research project was carried out to study the estimations of interval velocity from seismic reflection data of the acoustic P waves inside the Earth using the method of time migration which is necessary for obtaining seismic images in regular Cartesian coordinates. The main goals of the research work were to develop algorithms to convert time-migration velocities to true seismic velocities, and to convert time-migrated images to depth images in regular Cartesian coordinates. The...

Design of a computer based examination system

This research work is about computer based examination system. CHAPTER ONEINTRODUCTION1.1 BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY An Examination is one of the best methods of evaluating the knowledge andability of an individual. Its purpose is to assess how much each student haslearned compared to fellow students in the same course or learning situation.Various examination methods are being used in higher education institutions toassess   academic   progress,   such   as   paper-pencil-based   e...

SYNTHESIS AND CHARACTERIZATION OF PYRIDYL BASED SCHIFF

Metal complexes are scientifically known to be active and effective as antibacterial, antivirus and some antifungal etc. This project work is targeted at preparing complex from transition metals say; cobalt, cupper, zinc and nickel and organic ligands synthesised from pyridyl based schiff bases, one from 2-aminopyridine and benzaldehyde and second from 2-aminopyridine and 2,4-dihydroxylbenzaldehyde. The analysis and completion is based on thin-layer chromatography, column-chromatography and I...

ABSTRACT  Presently   in   today’s  institution,   there   is   a   geometric   rise   in   the   number   ofstudents admitted with a ration in the number for each department and level ofstudy This variation in the number of students has posed a problem in allocatinghalls into consideration for student  Based on this, there is so much need for asystem that would alleviate such problem.T...

Multistage Optimization in Supply Chain (Case Study: WEMY Industries Ltd)

Before the 1950s, logistics was thought of in military terms. It had to do with procurement, maintenance, and transportation of military facilities, material, and personnel. The study and practice of physical distribution and logistics emerged in the 1960s and 1970s. Logistics cost in the U.S. accounted for 15% of the gross national product and on an individual firm level, they could be as high as 32%. In the 1990s, a new name emerges: “supply chain management”. This name took the logisti...
