COMPARATIVE CHARACTERIZATION OF SOME PORTLAND CEMENTS SOLD IN SOKOTO CITY

ABSTRACT The aim of this research was to characterize some Portland cements (Bua, Dangote and Sokoto cement) sold in Sokoto city using standard methods; due to the persistent collapse of buildings. The results showed that Sokoto cement recorded the least CaO content (58.99%) while Dangote cement had the highest CaO content being 61.56%. All the samples have Al2O3, SiO2 and Fe2O3 contents within the acceptable limits with the exception of De with SiO2 content being below the required standard....

OPTIMIZATION OF METHANE GAS BY ANAEROBIC DIGESTION

ABSTRACT This project work aimed at demonstrating the benefits of organic wastes in the production of Biogas using a bio-digester through the use of different substrates and methods in order to optimize the production of Methane Gas by anaerobic digestion. Five samples (substrates) were used in this research with their different seeding substances. Organic wastes, particularly plants wastes and animal dung constitute a nuisance to our environment and also a threat to public health, there is...

Geotechnical analysis of slope failure at a Kaolin quarry

ABSTRACT Over 40 complexes of the younger granites of Nigeria are found on the Jos plateau. The Ganawuri complex is one of the high level granitoid bodies in the Younger Granite Province. During the period of this research, a massive kaolin deposit at Kurra was studied. The sequence of the studied area comprises of five layers: a lateritic layer, an older basalt layer, reddish kaolin, pure white kaolin and a migmatite layer. It has been propo...

ATTENDANCE MANAGEMENT SYSTEM OF STAFF IN AN ORGANISATION

Abstract Attendance management is the act of managing attendance or presence in a work setting, which maximises and motivates staff attendance thereby minimising loss. Not only does it affect productivity, it can cost the organisation profits or even additional contracts. For the industrial sector attendance management system can develop alacrity among the workers to work regularly and also help them to motivate their co- worker to attend work regularly. Fingerprints are considered to be...

Effect of EDTA on Tomatoes Plants Seedlings Under Nickel Toxicity

CHAPTER ONE 1.0 INTRODUCTION  1.1     NICKEL 1.1.1  Occurrence          Nickel (Ni) is a metallic element, with atomic number 28; atomic weight 58.69. Is a metal, which belongs to group VIIIB of the periodic table. The most important oxidation state of nickel is +2, although the +3 and +4 oxidation states are also known (Tundermann et al., 2005). Nickel resembles iron, cobalt, and copper in its chemical properties. However, unlike cobalt and iron, it is normally only stable in aqueou...

NETWORK BASED SECURITY INFORMATION SYSTEM

CHAPTER ONE INTRODUCTION 1.1    Introduction Security on the Internet and on Local Area Networks is now at the forefront of computer network related issues.  The  evolution  of  networking  and  the  Internet,  the  threats   to   information   and   networks   have   risen   dramatically.   Many   of   these   threats   have   become   cleverly    exercised    attacks    causing    damage    or    committing   theft.   The   Internet...

Design and implementation of a Simple word processor

CHAPTER ONE INTRODUCTION 1.1BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY  The importance of computer cannot be over emphasized with respect to designing and implementation in text editing package which could be in sciences, engineering, business or government etc.   Consequently, computers are becoming indispensable. This is obviously true in developed countries; like Nigeria is gradually being gravitated into computer oriented society with professional engineers, analyst, design and implementation of some pa...

REAL-TIME DRUG INTERACTION, VERIFICATION AND AUTHENTICATION

Counterfeiting is the concern of everyone – the consumers and the manufacturers alike. Drugs counterfeiting has been on the increased, the market is not sought for and the income is on the high side but to the detriment of both the consumers, suppliers and manufacturers. Technology can be of utmost importance in this area via the development of an interacting and authenticating system with a database that will authenticate drugs. The drug interacting authenticating systems will confirm the ...

MICROBIAL QUALITY ASSESSMENT OF LOCALLY PRODUCED KUNU SOLD AT TANKE AREA OF ILORIN METROPOLIS

Nine samples of freshly prepared kunu was taken from local vendors and hawkers at Tanke area, Ilorin, Kara State and analyzed for microbial quality. The pH of the samples ranged from 2.66 to 4.06. The total bacterial count ranged from 1.5×104 to 7.4×104 cfu/ml; the total coliform count ranged from 1.0x102 to 8.0x103cfu/ml; the faecal coliform count ranged from 0 to 3.0x103cfu/ml; the total fungi count ranged from 3.2x104 to 2.7x105cfu/ml. The presence of high microbial load was an indicatio...

ANALYSIS OF THE NUTRITIONAL VALUES OF FEED COMPOUNDED FROM LOCALLY AVAILABLE MATERIALS (UNIVERSITY OF CALABAR FISH FARM AS A CASE STUDY)

ABSTRACT  This project details the results of a research work carried out to develop fish feed compounded from locally available materials in the institute of oceanography fish farm and analyzed its nutritional values, in the biochemistry department all in the University of Calabar. On the basis of the feed production, it is recommended that the  feeding regime of the animal (fish) for intended culture is known, a dry diet formulation of two distinct feed lines was produced (fingerlings and...

THE DESIGN AND CONSTRUCTION OF AN ANTENNA BOOSTER (WI-FI ANTENNA BOOSTER)

ABSTRACT    Wi-Fi signals are susceptible to signal loss as they travel hence Wi-Fi users are rarely completely satisfied with the signal strength offered by the off-the-shelf Wi-Fi cards, routers and access points. This project research intends to introduce a device which can provide Wi-Fi users with high signal strength and at a lower cost in order to enable them have a seamless, uninterrupted and reliable communication. This project includes the steps for Biquad antenna construction, ste...

NUTRITIONAL AND ANTI-NUTRITIONAL CONTENTS OF INGREDIENTS USED IN PREPARING GRANULATED DUMPLING (DAMBU)

ABSTRACT Nutritional and antinutritional content of ingredient used in preparing dambu were determined by proximate composition, vitamins, minerals and antinutritional contents analysis. Maize and Moringa flowers were used as the experimental samples and the work was conducted in triplicate which resulted in obtaining the experimental result in mean and standard deviation. Appreciable amount of nutritive composition were obtain in the used maize and Moringa samples. While the antinutritional...

THE ADAMS-BASHFORTH ITERATIVE SCHEME FOR INITIAL VALUE PROBLEMS

ABSTRACT In this project work, we studied the Adams-Bashforth scheme for solving initial value problems. We gave an indebt explanation on the Adam-Bashforth scheme, its consistency, stability, and convergence, the two and three step methods were also derived. Numerical solutions were obtained using four (4) examples. TABLE OF CONTENTS  Cover page                                 i                                                                 ...

ABSTRACT  Kidney function parameters were evaluated in plasmodium berghei infected mice treated with crude methanol extracts of Azadirachta indica leaves in this study. A total of  forty (40) male albino mice inoculated with quinine resistant strains of plasmodium berghei were randomized into nine (9) groups of (4) animals each while four additional mice serve as the uninfected control group. Group 1 was treated with tween 80, group 2 treated with 10mg/kg chloroquine while groups 3,4, and 5...
