Comparison Of Three Numerical Methods For Estimating Weibull Parameters Using Weibull Distribution Model In Nigeria

There is a crucial need in Nigeria to enhance the development of wind technology in order to boost our energy supply. Adequate knowledge about the wind speed distribution becomes very essential in the establishment of Wind Energy Conversion Systems (WECS). Weibull Probability Density Function (PDF) with two parameters is widely accepted and is commonly used for modelling, characterizing and predicting wind resource and wind power, as well as assessing optimum performance of WECS. Therefore, i...

Sorption of refampicin on variable soil

Sorption and desorption of rifampicin was assessed on three different soil. Sorption mechanism was studied in terms of equilibrium and kinetics at different pH. Linear, Freundlich and Langmuir isotherm models were adopted to study the isotherm. The experimental data were best described by pseudo-second order kinetics (R2 = 1.00). It was observed that rifampicin absorbs better on soil with lowest organic carbon content. Sorption was observed to increase with decrease in aqueous pH and increase...

A Philosophical Appraisal of the Politics and Economics of Food in Africa

The continent of Africa has recorded impressive economic growth for over two decades. Factors identified as contributing to this growth include commercial oil deposits, inflation control, government liberalization and privatization policies, foreign direct investment, private sector investment in industries such as construction and service sectors, and a strong agricultural production. The continent is likely to continue enjoying strong economic growth if these resources are well managed. Afr...

Neuromuscular junction in cell necrosis and apoptosis

ABSTRACT The neuromuscular junction (NMJ) is a unique, specialized chemical synapse that plays a crucial role in transmitting and amplifying information from spinal motor neurons to skeletal muscles. NMJ complexity ensures closely intertwined interactions between numerous synaptic vesicles, signaling molecules, ion channels, motor neurons, glia, and muscle fibers, making it difficult to dissect the underlying mechanisms and factors affecting neuro-degeneration and muscle loss. Muscle fiber...

IVERMECTIN: AN ENDECTOCIDE

ABSTRACT   Ivermectin (IVM), a dihydro derivative of avermectin (AVM), originating solely from the fermentation products of Streptomyces avermitilis had an immeasurably beneficial impact in improving the lives and welfare of billions of people worldwide. Originally introduced as a veterinary drug, it was quickly discovered to be ideal in combating two of the world’s most devastating and disfiguring diseases; onchocerciasis and lymphatic filariasis (LF) which has plagued the world’s poor ...

TUNGIASIS: A NEGLECTED TROPICAL DISEASE

ABSTRACT Tungiasis is an ecto-parasitic disease of humans and animals caused by the burrowing of gravid female fleas of the genus ‘Tunga’. Of the known species of Tunga fleas, Tunga penetrans and Tunga trimamillata are parasites of humans besides other warm blooded mammals, most of which are peri-domestic. The host of the others is limited to a few genera of wild mammals. The burrowed female flea rapidly expands its body size, causing immense itching, inflammation, pain and debilitation. ...

On mathematical models for pension fund optimal selection strategies

Pension, being regular payments made to retirees or their beneficiaries after retiring from active service, needs efficient and effective management because of the funds involved as the living standard of the retirees and their dependants rest on it after retirement. In attempt to maximize the wealth of pension contributors, the investors may end up losing the pension fund assets because higher returns on investment go hand in hand with higher risk of loss of invested contributions/savings. T...

COMPARATIVE STUDIES OF THE BIOSORPTION OF HEAVY METALS ( LEAD & ZINC) USING TEA LEAVES (CAMELIA SINENSIS) & TEA FIBRE AS ADSORBENT

Abstract: This research has helped us to ascend from the initial two exploratory studies to a more advanced  general conclusion and theory that tea leaves (Camellia sinensis) has a great potential for Pb(ii) and Zn  uptake, as such, a more suitable Low-cost adsorbent for the effective removal of Pb (II) and Zn from  industrial effluents waste water than tea fibre. This is coined from the results of the different biosorption  studies carried out as a function of contact time, initial metal...

EFFECT OF CELLGEVITY ON CATALASE ACTIVITY OF RAT MODEL OF PARKINSON DISEASE

Parkinson’s disease is a degenerative neurological disease, which is characterized by the preferential death of dopaminergic neurons in the Substantia Nigra. Current drug treatments are aimed primarily for the treatment of symptoms to improve the quality of life. Therefore, there is a need to find out new therapeutic strategies that not only provide relief but also halt or reverse the neuronal damage hampering PD progression, thus this research therefore aimed at investigating the impact o...
