Phytochemical Composition and Antimicrobial Activity of Daniella oliveri Extracts

Daniella oliveri (Caesalpiniacea) is a plant found in the Amazon region and other parts of South America and Africa. The tree may reach a height of 100 feet and trunk diameter of 4 feet. Daniella oliveri (Rolfe) Fabiaceae is commonly known as Ilorin balsam (eepo-iya) or Copaihu africana . It is an indigenous African tree, found extensively in Benin, Cameroon, Gambia and Nigeria. The basic objective of this project is to determine the antimicrobial activity and phytochemical composition of Dan...

Evaluation of Antibacterial Potency of Crude Ethyl Acetate and Ethanol Extracts of Morinda lucida

The plant Morinda lucida falls under the family Rubiaceae known to have wide usage in traditional medicine. Morinda lucida is a tropical West African tree of medium-size about 18–25 m tall, the bark is grey to brown in colour, flowers are white in colour, the fruit is a drupe, seed is ellipsoid, yellowish and soft. The purpose of this work is to determine the antimicrobial properties of      Morinda lucida against Mycobacterium species, a very virulent and infectious organism, isolated ...

Elemental Composition, Evaluation of Anti-nutrients, and Antioxidant Potentials of Morinda lucida

Morinda lucida is a tropical West African tree of medium-size, having brown colored bark, white flowers and yellowish ellipsoid seeds. It is widely used in traditional medicine systems of different countries. The preliminary phytochemical screening of different extracts prepared from bark, leaves and seeds of M. lucida revealed the presence of Saponin, Tannins, Alkaloids, Flavonoids, and Cardiac glucosides. Furthermore, it also reveals presence of Minerals like Sodium, Potassium, Calcium, Iro...

BIODIVERSITY CONSERVATION AND ECOSYSTEM SERVICES FOR NATIONAL DEVELOPMENT

ABSTRACT  The most amazing feature of Earth is the existence of life, and the most extraordinary feature of life is its diversity. Human beings can coexist only with the abundance of and diversity of nature. It is widely acknowledged that biodiversity underpins ecosystem functioning and that the provisioning of ecosystem services is essential for human well-being. The relationship between biodiversity and ecosystem services is not straightforward, whether more biodiversity would imply more ...

DIGGING A HOLE STRAIGHT DOWN INTO THE EARTH (What will happen)

ABSTRACT: The earth has three layers each consisting solid materials that make them hard and difficult to be penetrated. But, suppose we neglect every other hindrances, where do we expect to go when we dig straight down through the earth passing through all the layers. This paper explains all about what is experienced and the Scientific analysis when/if the earth where to be dug through.

1-D Time Dependent Schrodinger Equation (Simplest derivation) - Alfred Dambe Enu

ABSTRACT: Deriving Schrodinger equation has always been with students. This paper made it easy to students by analysing the steps involve in deriving the equation in the simplest manner. This is the  easiest way to derive, understand and to define the meaning of the equation.

Numerical Treatment of General Third Order Ordinary Differential Equations Using Taylor Series as Predictor

This work considers the direct solution of general third order ordinary differential equation. The method is derived by collocating and interpolating the approximate solution in power series. A single hybrid three-step method is developed. Taylor series is used to generate the independent solution at selected grid and off grid points. The order, zero stability and convergence of the method were established. The developed method is then applied to solve some initial value problems of third ord...

Goitrogenic content of some selected nigerian leafy vegetables

The goitrogenic potential of a plant or food depends upon the amount of active goitrogen present in it. Various procedures like soaking, washing, boiling and cooking can help in reducing the goitrogenic potency of these foods. These, along with the intake of iodide supplements are generally practiced in areas where goitrogenic foods are routinely consumed. In this experiment, goitrogenic contents of some commonly consumed vegetables were assayed and analysed.

Principles of Friction and Viscosity. By Alfred Dambe Enu

ABSTRACT: Friction and Viscosity are very strong concepts in Physics and Engineering. This paper discusses some basic aspects of these topics and their application in daily natural phenomena.

Protein Disulfide Isomerase

The folding protein (and protein folder) is beset with a number of problems in translating the simple instructions encoded by DNA into the complex, three-dimensional structure of a correctly folded protein. Nature has solved these problems in an adequate, if not elegant, fashion, but we are just beginning to understand the variety of strategies that cells use to ensure efficient protein folding. This minireview will focus on several of the more general principles of assisted folding using the...

PRODUCTION OF PEANUT BUTTER

ABSTRACT             Production of Peanut Butter was done using roasted groundnuts, salt and yeast. The process involved roasting and grinding into fine paste, after which equal amount of honey and vegetable oil were added, sugar, salt, followed by powdered yolk of an egg was added as colouring agent. The product produced peanut butter was yellowish in colour, had a smooth and soft texture which spread easily on bread and had a fine peanut taste. It was put under observation for...

Bohrs Radius of the Atom

ABSTRACT: Students always ask the question, if there is such a strong electrostatic force of attraction between the nucleus and electrons at the lowest orbital as proposed by Bohr, how then does the electron orbit the nucleus without collapsing into it. This paper answers that question base on Neils Bohr's assumptions. The paper derives the speed of electrons on their orbits with respect to their orbital radius. This paper also explains why electrons at the higher orbital revolves the orbit a...

PREVALENCE OF UROPATHOGENIC ESCHERICHIA COLI & STAPHYLOCOCCUS AUREUS AMONG PATIENTS WITH CASES OF URINARY TRACT INFECTIONS ATTENDING BENUE STATE UNIVERSITY TEACHING HOSPITAL, MAKURDI

ABSTRACT In the present study, we investigated the prevalence of few bacterial organisms associated with urinary tracts infection and their antimicrobial susceptibility patterns. Total of Ninety (90) midstream urine samples were collected from outpatients with respect to their age group, gender and marital status attending health facility in Benue State University Teaching Hospital Makurdi. Each 0.1ml of urine sample was cultured on MacConkey agar and colonies showing lactose fermentation we...

Production of protease enzyme from fish guts using Pseudomonas fluorescens, Enterobacter cloacae and Bacillus megaterium.

Food industry wastes are an essential environmental contamination source. A large number of microorganisms including bacteria, yeast and fungi produce different types of enzymes like protease, lipase, chitinase, chitosan and ligninolytic enzyme having high biotechnological interest such as food processing, detergent, textile, pharmaceutical products, and medical therapy. Microbial synthesis of enzymes has been reported to be influenced by various factors such as carbon sources, nitrogen sourc...
