Projecting changes of maize yield based on regional weather parameters using Artificial Neural Network

Maize is one of the largest food crop cultivated in Mubi region. It is produced annually and serves as the source of food and revenue. This work developed, an artificial neural network (ANN) model based on the data collected to forecast Maize yield in terms of weather parameters (Temperature and Rainfall). Predicted yield increased by 0.37 tons, 0.67 tons, 289.48tons and 0.17 tons in 2006, 2011, 2014 and 2015 and reduced by 0.52 tons, 0.32 tons, 5.53 tons, 15.44 tons, 0.45 tons and 0.25 tons ...

Microbiological Analyses of Freshly Laid and Stored Domestic Poultry Eggs in Selected Poultry Farms in Umuahia, Abia State, Nigeria

Freshly laid and stored domestic fowl eggs of 7, 14 and 21 days old, respectively were microbiologically analysed for organisms on their shells in the chalazae, albumen and yolks. All the egg parts were analysed by plating on Nutrient, McConkey and Sabourand’s Dextrose media respectively.

Analysis Of The Decline Of Geography In Nigerian Secondary Schools

It's an analysis for the decline of geography in our Nigerian secondary schools over the years. The paper looks at the problems and causes of the decline in the subject. By using secondary data from the national examinations body the paper was able to deduce the reasons for the decline.  Abstract: Geography as a school subject is one of the most important subjects in senior secondary school education and it’s relevant for students in their pursue of tertiary education cannot be over emph...

Evaluation of Waste Landfill Using 2-D Resistivity Imaging. ( A Case Study Of Iguomo Dumpsite) Edo State, Nigeria

Abstract Municipal solid waste disposal sites can be sources of groundwater contamination and the contamination problems are more likely to occur in humid areas, where the moisture available exceeds the ability of the waste pile absorb water. 2-D resistivity imaging has frequently been used in the subsurface pollution studies. The method maps the distribution of resistivity of subsurface materials. The 2-D resistivity image provides general information on subsurface stratification of buried w...

Proximate Composition and Antihtperglycaemic Effects of Selected Plant Products

Abstract The proximate, dietary fibre, mineral and antinutrient compositions of Gongronema latifolium (leaves), Gymnema sylvestre (leaves), Corchorus olitorius (leaves) and Bulchozia coriceae (seeds) were evaluated. Diabetes was induced in selected albino rats while the control groups were normal. Both groups were fed diets containing different levels of each plant product (0, 2.5, 5.0, 10.0 and 20.0% respectively) for twenty-eight days. Effects of plant products on blood glucose, sodium, pot...

Numerical Solution of a One-Dimensional Second Order Macroscopic Traffic Flow Model with a Source Term.

The study of traffic models has given rise to many models with the aim of realistically determining the behavior of traffic. The dynamics of the macroscopic traffic flow is modeled by a partial differential equation, where the object of study is to determine the density of traffic flow. We derived a second order macroscopic traffic flow model equation from a first order one using the Fick’s law of diffusion. We formulated second order macroscopic traffic flow model equation with a sourc...

Quantitative Model for Dynamic Propagation and Countermeasure of Malicious Cyber Attack on the Mobile Wireless Network

Abstract One major concern of network and data security consultants globally is the capabilities of infectious malicious cyber-attacks (Malware) to invade the entire population of the network terminals within few days of an outbreak of an attack to wreak havoc ranging from identity theft, financial fraud to systemic digital assault on critical national assets. It is known that when the vulnerable mobile device communicates with the infected nodes, it becomes infected. This work studi...

EFFECT OF ISONIAZID ON THE METABOLISM OF PARACETAMOL IN RATS

ABSTRACT The metabolism of Paracetamol has been studied in Isoniazid pretreated albino rats and compared with control. During this study, thirty-five (35) laboratory albino rats were used divided into five (5) groups of seven (7) rats each. Group I served as control and the rats were only administered with 120mg/5ml/kg body weight dose of Paracetamol interperitoneally. However, Groups II-V served as test groups and the members were pretreated with 10mg/kg body weight dose of Isoniazid interpe...

CHARACTERISATION OF ESSENTIAL OIL FROM LEAVES OF Euphorbia heterophylla AND ITS INSECT REPELLENT POTENTIAL

This study aimed at characterizing essential  oil  from leaves of  E.heterophylla and its insect repellent potential. Essential oil from fresh leaves of  E.heterophylla was extracted by  hydro distillation method, using a  Clevenger apparatus for 4 hours and the  yield was 0.1816%w/w. Repellence  test was conducted by  using 5 cockroaches in number which were  placed in a modified Y-tube Olfactometer and observations recorded for  each and every  odour introduced after 5 minutes i...

Arithmetic of Analysis (Supremum and Infimum)

I can still remember my expression and feeling when we were asked to show that sup(A + B) = sup(A) + sup(B). It was an herculean task because the concept was too difficult to grasp with the use of approximation property until I discovered an easy route. In a bid to restrict my papers to just few pages, I will focus more on examples than theorems.

Technical Report on Students Industrial Work Experience Scheme

Students industrial work experience scheme SIWES is a skill learning programme designed to expose and prepare students of engineering, technology, environmental sciences, medical sciences, pure and applied sciences for the industrial work situation which they are likely to meet after graduation. Duration for SIWES is a six months programme for universities, four months for polytechnics end of ND 1, four months for colleges of Education end of NCE II.  The students industrial work experience ...

Estimation of Global Solar Radiation Flux Over Ibadan

Renewable energy resources are those having a cycling time less than 100 years and are renewed by the nature and their supply exceeds the rate of consumption. Renewable energy systems use resources that are constantly replaced in nature and are usually less polluting. This project work estimates the solar radiation flux over Ibadan, a south-western city in Nigeria. The estimated models for the solar radiation over Ibadan are obtained for the period of ten years (1995 to 2004). The solar radia...

Preliminary Investigation of the Possible Pathogenic Bacterial Contents of Some Local Non-Alcoholic Drinks

The aim of this study was to determine the safety profiles of some local non-alcoholic drinks sold within Zaria locality by isolating and characterizing the possible pathogenic bacteria found in them. For this aim, 17 samples of Zobo drink, 19 samples of Kunu zaki drink, and 15 samples of Ginger drink were analysed. Among the 51 total samples, Klebsiella pneumoniae was isolated from one Ginger drink sample; Serratia marcescens was  isolated from two Zobo drink samples and two Ginger drink s...

Design of DNA Based Biometric Security System for Examination Conduct

ABSTRACT  Biometrics is a technique of using characteristics and behavioral traits for identification of people this is more effective that common personal identification number(PIN) for an improved security technique. The basic procedure in a biometric system is the collection of biometric data through a sensor elements, the module extracted bares biometric data which is compared to its templates in a database to identify the data subject. In this work, the design of DNA (Deoxyribonucleic a...
